If this were the NFL Rick would of been one of the best offensive coach's. To bad this is the NBA were you have to be just as good on defense.

denniscd is a strange poster. That said, I agree that Adelman is a great coach.

i guess fans here really have short memories.

how about all the times he fails to make the right play on late game situations which cost the rockets games?

the reason why the rockets have been winning is the amazing play of lowry and martin, scola being consistent and battier bringing some tangibles.

Rick Adelman is good with Veterns who already understand the game and really need a coach just to let them do what they are best at.

But he is terrible for young guys and winning. That's why his teams in Golden State sucked really bad. And that's why he sucked after he lost Chris Webber and Mike Bibby.

    That why he sucks now.

I don't think he sucks -- he's a hall of fame coach. His best teams were led by veterans, true.. but how many coaches have 'great' teams that are led by the young guys?

The Rockets are rebuilding/retooling, for better or worse. Scola is a veteran; Shane is a veteran. Martin, Brooks, and Lowry are all taking that next step in the process. We could have a 'veteran' team in a year or two if we keep this core.

Firing Adelman would be a huge mistake; I remember thinking how stupid Sacramento was for doing it. How many coaches have they gone through since? Westphal is about to be canned as well. Good coaches don't grow on trees -- we need to keep Adelman and just mark up the lottery seasons to not having enough talent. Because that's the God's honest truth.. we don't have enough individual talent to really be a threat in the playoffs. We have a bunch of collective talent, but not that one guy that can take over. That's not Rick's fault.

That said, enough with the Adelman threads! ;)

Which good teams are being led by their rookies or sophmores that are playoff contenders now? Wizards(Wall),Kings(Cousins), Nets(Favors), Timberwolves(Johnson) and 76ers(Turner) are the first 5 picks of the draft(Griffin was last year) and are worse than the Rockets. How about the 2nd year players? Clippers(Griffin), Grizzlies(Thabeet), Thunder(Harden-not doing much leading), Kings(Evans), Timberwolves(Rubio-hasn't come over yet) are worse than the Rockets.

    All coaches must suck then.

ii am not related to ra. i dont work for the rockets. i am not a friend of ra or any members of his family. what i am is an observer of the nba and truly appreciate rick's approach, demeanor, communication skills, development of players (ie notice hayes improved offensive skills etc) and is the keenest offensive mind in the game.

so you conspiracy theorists...chill out. i love me some ra. he is not good, he is GREAT. and if you cant see it, then you have clouded judgement. our talent level is average to below average...no start except martin on some nights. hate on me, but appreciate rick's greatness!

Too right! Has he done anything this season that other coaches wouldnt have been able to do? We do have a pretty decent team after all. Its not like he achieved a .500 record with a crap team.

Couldn't disagree more. This is especially apparent when we play teams who have the same talent level as us or higher (like Sac, Memphis, GSW, LAC). If we swapped coaches with opposing teams, we'd lose more games. If anything, Adelman gets this team to consistently overachieve, which makes the pro-tank crowd sad.

Also, against those teams I listed, in the recent wins over them, it was obvious we won because we were a more disciplined team, not because we had more talent. Especially against Sac, we just stayed consistent and let them beat themselves. That's a sign of good coaching, and shows Adelman is effective at getting the players to play the way he wants them to.

He is a good coach yes but not coach of the year until we see more from this team and see where they go from here during a harder schedule next month. Then maybe he will be? He is a good coach though and one of the better ones in this league.
