before Barnes turned it down, Gillespie called and said "if Barnes goes, I would be very interested." Apparently he has publically stated that UT was his dream job and I would like to think that he would've left ATM anyway, but he was set to sign that extension as well.
Oh come on! I hate the Aggies as much as the next liberal, but you are kidding.? UT was Gillipsie's dream job and he would have switched from the Aggies to UT!?
That would have led to a whole nother level of feuding between the fans and supporters of the two schools if Texas stole the Aggie's signature bball coach!!
On another level. Maybe Barnes's top recruit the big center Jordan,a McDonals's All American I believe from Houston, could possibly switch to UT which was supposedly number 2 on his list. Anybody think that Gillipsie could pose possible trouble to UT bball recruiting from his post at Kentucky? Hard to know waht future Texas HIgh School All Americans will think about this.
I don't think recruiting will be an issue since he can show how many players from Texas went on to the NBA in recent years.
He was gonna leave for Arkansas and you don't think he would've left for UT? Tactless move? yeah. But the guy left for UK in about two hours. He spent the night at the UK ad's house, it wasn't like he wasn't ready to leave. I think he viewed ATM as a stepping stone type of school. Do a google search on BCG, that quote is out there.
