No one is actually blaming just the coach, but zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz to that. You mean you think he put the correct players to finish the game, mentally prepared them and motivated them? So, it's everyone's fault but coaches? Aha!!
so letting roy score 42 pts, aldridge score 29 pts, and allowing them to shoot 50% all game really isn't as big of a factor as the offense? defense was the main problem. and yao is yao. fronting is gonna neutralize him everytime. don't know why ppl keep blaming adelman and others. we played better than i expected vs the fronting. the scoring was balanced...
how is that technical? did we or didnt we score 103 points? our offense did its job...they front yao and other players have to step up and create the offense for themselves. WE HAD 6 PLAYERS IN DOUBLE FIGURES the blazers had to practically play their best game of the season to beat us and they did just that...you have to hand it to them...they were supposed to bring their A game..it was a must win save for a few bad calls down the stretch which happens for the home team but we shouldnt have put ourselves in that position if we made 60% of our missed fts.
yes me too, but who's to blame? there has been 3 coaching regimes and countless number of players over yao's career. if it's not the coach or the players, it's yao. he's the only superstar that can be completely taken out of the game. so in order to win with out yao contributing you need another superstar to carry the team. therein lies the problem. it's not easy to pair superstars on one team and tmac was a failure.
All those accomplishments are great but we are talking about this years playoff. It doesnt matter what you do in regular season. Playoffs are a different story. Quote from Adelman "It’s a combination," Adelman said of the problems getting Yao touches. "He has to find a way to get position better. He has to find a way to hold their people off. And we have to have patience to look for him. We ran some stuff and he came in the middle with a guy on his back and we chucked it up there. Adelman cant teach Yao about playing in post. What Adelman can do is except the player for what he is. Yao Ming has had this problem his whole career. Why should anyone assume it will magically change? Yeah it would be easier if he can fight and find a way to get open but IT AINT GONNA HAPPEN. YAO MING is YAO MING. He is the Rockets best player and he is not going anywhere. He is the Rockets franchise player whether you like it or not. He is the one who can carry the team if he can get the ball. Since he cant get open on his own, the next thing to do is to find a way to get him the ball. That is on the coach. That means Adelman needs to counter what the Blazers are doing. This is why we hate Adelman. He is being an ignorant dumb***. He continues to believe Yao can do it on his own, when we all know he cant. Its time for a change in game plan. Make some dam plays that will counter the fronting. Be able to use your best player when the game is on the line. It's like he is trying to wish the fronting away or something and its getting pathetic. For those talking about Rockets role players Yao was pretty much a decoy for game 2. 95% of the time, the Rockets were not even looking for Yao. While they did have success with it you cannot rely on it. Wafer, Lowry, and Scola had some good opportunities because of it but in the fourth you go to your best player. If we rely on those players to win the game for us we will never win. Dont get me wrong they are great players but they are role players. Role players are not go to guys. Artest and Brooks are not go to guys. The only player we should be looking for late in games is Yao Ming. That would mean finding a way to get him the ball. Again that means Adelman doing something about it. Last thing I want to say is our defense was the main problem in that game. Defense was the main problem, not getting Yao involved was our second problem.
and since when do you have to get your superstars involved? isn't it supposed to be the other way around? superstars supposed to get others involved? like smoothie said above, we've gone through this with 3 different coaches, many players... the problem is yao. he has to find a way to be effective when teams do this to him. it's inevitable EVERY team is going to try to front him EVERY game if they need to stop him.
Yao should know best what he can and can't do against the fronting defense. If he thinks he can catch lobs, then he needs to tell his teammate to just lob it, if he thinks he can rebound, then tell his teammates to go ahead and shoot the ball, etc
Exactly. Yao has now had three different coaches. Those three coaches have combined for two NBA titles and have been to the finals five times. They know a thing or two. And yet when Rudy was Yao's coach, he was the problem. When Van Gundy was the coach, he was the problem. And now Adelman is the coach and he is the problem. Coaches are important but they can't go on the court and play. At some point, it becomes up to the players. It's not as simple as "throw the ball to Yao." Yao has to seal off his man and hold position. If he can't (and he has yet to show the ability to do that), they need to use him being doubled as a way to find open people or drive to the basket. If Yao can't get around his defender when being fronted, and it just doesn't seem like he can, the only real way to solve that is to have another player on the court that demands a lot of attention from the defense. That is why Yao was not fronted this much when McGrady was on the team. Because defenses had to pay as much attention to McGrady as they did Yao. Nobody on the current team gets that type of attention now other than Yao. That's something to think about after this season, as we won't win a title without another established scorer. That being said, we scored 103 points last night and played a pretty bad game for us and still could have won despite Roy and Aldridge getting off big. The offense was fine.
So when Yao came into league he was already getting double teamed and was considered best scoring center in league? Of course we also had the best role players in the league with guys like Wesley, Jackson, Mo Taylor, and other losers... How can a superstar get others involved without the ball. The only way is to do what Yao did last night which was open it up for other. One thing people like seem to forget was that we had T-Mac back then. With T-Mac around teams teams were more reluctant to double Yao because T-Mac could take anyone one on one. Now that he is gone, Yao is more exposed. Yao cant beat the front alone, he has shown that. So you do the next best thing which is HELP HIM BEAT IT.
first, i have no intention to play a blame game. it's pointless. 2nd, if you want to lay it on yao, that's your opinion. i have no intention to change that or convince you of anything. but anyone, especially a post player, can be taken out of a game by any team at anytime. dream was taken out of the game in those seattle series, under similar defense (illegal back then). the only thing is at what cost, as well as how the other players exploit that. that's one of the basics of bball.
Agree . . If they gonna front YAO . . Force the action and foul all them out that are inside the circle. Take it to the Rack with Authority and force foul calls Make them spend precious fouls ... fouling the lil guys Rocket River
In Yao's defense. . . . Hakeem didn't have to deal with the Fronting and doubled in the back before receiving the ball. It was called ILLEGAL DEFENSE in his day . . . and and when he did face it. . .the Rockets Struggled [SEE SEATTLE ILLGAL DEFENSE PLAYING B*ST*RDS THAT THEY WERE!!!] Rocket River otherwise. . . good post
I understand that RR, but Illegal Defense as I understood it prohibited teams from double teaming a player if he didn't have the ball.. Now I don't have a problem with Yao if he wasn't able to beat 2 guys, I mean, he is not superman afterall and it's unfair to expect that of anyone.. what bothers me is Pryzbilla essentially playing him 1 on 1 basketball and sliding right in front of him, without a doubler coming from the weak side, which I have seen plenty of times.. what happens is, Yao is trapped struggling for position behind his tiny defender, and our perimeter players aren't comfortable with throwing a lob because the help defender can get over quickly and steal it away even if he isn't really "doubling" Yao, he just needs to be in the vicinity guarding our Power Forward.. this isn't really what illegal defense prohibited back in the day, so it would've been perfectly legal for teams to "front" dream.. the only difference is, he would have slid over his defender with his lightning quickness and barked at Kenny Smith to give him the damn ball.. a 6 year old could make a post-entrance pass to hakeem because all you had to do is throw it in his direction and he'll do the rest.. this scenario I described above, which I like the call "single-coverage fronting defense" is what destroys our offense because players can't really exploit it like, say, a double team (which you beat by swinging the ball around until a guy has an obvious advantage on the rotating man, in which he makes a move to the basket, or an intermediate move to set up an even open-er teammate).. this single coverage fronting, however, doesn't open any holes in the defense, it just takes Yao right out of the game and leaves our guys wondering what the heck to do.. that's why you have Ronald taking ill-advised fade-away three pointers with the shot clock down.. Yao needs to be able to beat a single-guy fronting him, at least to demand a double team.. if a double team can neutralize him, I'm fine with it, because it opens things up for Ron, Wafer, Lowry, etc.. but we can't have our superstar big man getting bullied by this injury-ridden 70 year old overrated punk Oden or that flopping alien Pryzbilla.. he needs to be able to handle them, with ease..
well, it is technical. Giving the opposing team two FTs in your attempt to get back is not regular offense. Get it?
This is so Cliche and has nothing to back it up. Under Rudy T, Yao didn't see much fronting, if any. Under JVG, GSW routinely fronted him. Let's take a lookL Take 05-06 season for example, against GSW, Yao went: 12-22, 30 points(W) 8-19, 22 pts(W) 12-18, 30pts(W) http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/players/3599/gamelog;_ylt=AmtHq0q8pWxDWDDeTCgghVqsPKB4?year=2005 Never did he register only 6 attempts against fronting. Granted, Yao had some 7 shots games against PHO. People on the forum talk cliches without bases.
Wow, way to belittle our roster to glorify Adelman. So Yao Ming is now an overhyped center instead of one of the top c's in the league, artest is just some random insane mofo, and Landry, Wafer and White are just run of the mill guys you can find in the D-league. Oh yeah, Battier, Barry, Mutombo and Scola don't count. We have a 22 million dollar hole in our roster so our team must be the worst evaaaaar. All hail Rick the ruler I think blaming the coach is justified because he came here with the promise of making things easier for Tmac and Yao Ming and elevating our offense to another level. Instead we lost our vaunted defense inspite of adding Ron Artest and losing Tmac (our defensive sieve in years past), and Yao Ming was reduced to role player status, only getting touches when Artest and Brooks remember this is supposed to be his team. I'm not even sure if the offense became better as a whole in RA's time, since we upgraded basically every position in the team when Gundy left. All I know is Nate Mcmillan did a great job making adjustments with his team, while we ended up losing game 2 after dominating the first game. All the issues we have are nothing new...all of these have been plaguing us since the start of the season, and so far I don't see any evidence RA has done anything to resolve them. I mean, Yao Ming only getting 6 shots off? Really? We'll see what happens the next few games.
