well first, the ring isn't guaranteed, so it's hard to guage when you're "close". I dont kow if he's leaving, but if he's thinking "i'm going to retire in about 4 years" then he may think a longer contract closer to hom may set him up for retirement best. If oregon gives him job secuirty for about 4 yrs or so he can just stay there until he retires. However, here he doesnt have that long under contract and the team is approaching a fork in the road next year. Do continue with yao and the vets, or not? So after this year depending on that decision, adelman's job could get a ot tougher and alot more stressful, not to mention they may let him go if they choose to go in a differerent direction. Then adelman will be left looking for a job and there may not be a better opportunity than what Oregon was offering...so he may like the fact that he can control his future if he leaves Houston..

Yep a couple of weeks ago they were saying that Tubby Smith would coach there. Tubby squashed that rumor.

I'm sure someone on here can post Yao's progress from Sina.com. They are usually covering Yao on and off the court...

I'm hoping the Adelman rumor is false simply because he's the perfect coach for the Rockets. I do know Rick loves the state of Oregon and still resides here at times.

A program with not just a LOT but a TON of money actively looking to improve won't stay 2nd rate for long. The quickest way to improve a program is by signing a big time/big name coach and the recruits he's able to bring on. Ernie Kent being fired was the best thing ever for our program and it was well overdue. I guarantee the Ducks will end up with someone really good. It's only a matter of time till someone bites. $$$$$ Talks.

On perhaps a related note, I was watching a Warriors game when Warriors' Broadcaster Jim Barnett mentioned that he had a "gut feeling" Rick Adelman would retire and not coach anywhere next year. I saw a closed thread briefly discussing the subject and wanted to confirm Barnett indeed made the statement on air twice that he had a "gut feeling" Adelman would not coach next year. Barnett and Adelman are old friends/acquaintances as they were teamates on the San Diego Rockets. Make what you will of the comment although it makes you wonder whether Barnett formed his opinion from recent conversations with Adelman.

This doesn't seem like it will happen...I hope not...

But if it does...there is alaways JVG, the biggest Houston fan out there...

Im just saying, but I hope Rick is here to stay.

Is Adelman going to accept a job without consulting the team? ;)

On a serious note, a few days ago someone mentioned that an opposing team's broadcaster said that "this would be Adelman's last year" with the Rockets. Everyone ridiculed them, but maybe they were onto something.

BTW I don't think Rick will take the job.

Guys, both Morey and Jason Friedman have said there is literally "No chance" and "zero chance" respectively of this happening. Let this completely fabricated rumor die.

Not when he has retooled this team around his offensive philosophy ... he still has something he wants to prove--that he can take a team to the NBAchampionship. Oregon can wait.

I think there's a better chance of McGrady coaching at Oregon then Adelman

and in other news... Aaron Brooks is rumored to be retiring so he can go back to school and play under Adelman next year. I hear he's recruiting RA hardcore. heh

There's no way RA leaves before he get's to see this team put together 100%.

I don't care what Morey said this morning, what Friedman said or anyone else for that matter. I will be a little worried until the Oregon job is filled and Adelman is still the Rockets coach.

Contracts and Extensions mean practically nothing in today's sports world....coaches change jobs all the time while still under contract.

I don't think Adelman will leave the Rockets, but Oregon is a place I could see him going, since he does live there. Also, he has coached in college before, unlike a previous poster mentioned, but it was a small school.
