RA doesn't maximize his talent. If he had we wouldn't execute chicken head cut off plays out of timeouts and lose to garbage teams like the Grizz...twice
You think Rick tells Yao to not get position or Artest to shoot off balance 22 footers or Aaron Brooks to get his layups blocked by the other person/bottom of the rim?? Just because YOU think he should have done something else does not mean that he in fact SHOULD have done something else. Sometimes what he does doesn't work. But its almost always the right play, screwed up by lack of execution or the other team out-executing the Rockets...
Who's #2 in the West? The Griz or the Rockets? You Isiah Thomas newbs want a new coach every time we lose. which one is it this time? Phil Jackson? what are you going to do to get him? dress up like his girlfriend?
The fact that we lose...sometimes...does not mean Rick is a bad coach. It means that we are playing in the NBA, where you play a long-ass 82 game season and every single person that steps on the court is one of the top 300 players in the world. I don't know what some people expect. sure, every now and again a late game play gets blown up or a team hits everything and we lose. the thing is, everybody loses. The best regular season team in the history of the NBA (96 bulls), with the best coach (jackson) the best rebounder/post defender (rodman) the best shooter (Kerr) the best defender/swiss-army-knife(pippen) and the best player of all time (duh) lost 10 games. Sometimes, their late game execution faltered, or they got outplayed. It happens to every team. No exceptions. So no, Rick hasn't won every game. He's also, for the past 2 years, been working with a perpetual revolving-door lineup, and still managed to win 22 in a row without our best player last year and get us to 2nd in the west this year. He has a 60+% career winning percentage...that's way, way too good to be a fluke. Sure, Morey has made some great moves, but young players need to be developed and properly utilized by the Coach and his assistants. Maybe our role players exceed expectations because Morey is a magical genius who outsmarts everyone else in the league...but maybe, just maybe, our role players exceed expectations in part because they are very well utilized. Von Wafer never stuck with a team before the rockets. Kyle Lowry couldn't get off the bench. Yes, there are other circumstances, but the main keys to a young player breaking out are confidence and direction, and it's the coaching staff who gives them those things. Here's the coup de grace....this blew my mind a little bit. Compare the end of last year's 22 game win streak (that vaulted us into 1st in the conference) with this year's most recent run winning 16 of the last 20 (that's vaulted us into 1st in the division). Two spectacular runs, despite injury and adversity in both instances. What are the common denominators between these runs? not a lot. 4 players--maximum--were in the rotation for both streaks: Battier, Scola, Hayes (situationally), and Landry(when not struggling with his knee/gunshot). 3 power forwards and one small forward--in terms of players who played, that's the only overlap between last season's spectacular run and this one's. The only other common denominator: Rick Adelman and his staff. I'll let you do the math. People on this board need to stop being a bunch of armchair auerbachs and realize that, even though we lose games sometimes, we have in our employ one of the best damn coaches in the last 20 years of NBA history and we ought to be grateful. /rant
you're giving to much credit to the majority of people here, they don't know that Rick took the Blazers to 2 finals, do you think they know who Auerbach is? They probably think its that limo that picks up Jay-Z when he rolls into town.
He's not Mybach. He's not Yourbach. He's Auerbach. I liked that armchair Auerbach line from HTown though...

Wow...reduced to hurling grade-school insults, are we? For someone who brags about being a 99er, you certainly need to grow up. So the Rox are the number 2 seed in the west. What does that have to do with my point that we've been winning more due to talent on the roster than on any real coaching moves done by Rick Adelman? Your post makes about as much sense as the one where you went ape-**** over the member who asked for a Tmac video
it shows you know nothing about coaching. I guess these players just go and practice by themselves like an intramural team. Rick Adelman just sits there and writes rap songs all day. I hate to break it to you do. This is ALL COACHING.
Nice post. I'd rather hear this praise from a coach who's won NBA championships than some nba newbs who are still mad we lost some games to the Griz. I'll take #2 in the West if it means coaching through tough times. And losing to the Griz wasn't that bad, it humbles your team and tells you need to work more. But then again, the brainless fools think we should be 82-0.
hey timman, was that you who was trying to set up a lunch appointment with richard justice in his blog?
Yes, because the statement "winning due more to talent than RA's coaching moves" means RA is a rapstar All coaching huh? I suppose the fact that DM brought Scola, Artest, Wafer, Landry, Barry and Lowry here has nothing to do with it.
I don't want to change Adelman, especially now when we're in the middle of the season nearing the playoffs. He's the best we can get at the moment since JVG probably won't be coming back. Just because I hate our execution and doubt his game time decisions and rotations doesn't mean I don't realize we have a good coach on our team, I'm just worried that his laid-back you figure it out approach will come back to haunt us in the playoffs. We'll see what happens.
