I was pleased when we got Gene Hackman -- err, Rick Adelman -- two years ago. I loved his Sacramento Kings teams, but I realized that kind of team could not function with Yao Ming on the roster. Nonetheless, you can see the offense flow beautifully on occasion, movement everywhere.

The bottom line is that our offense is much better than under JVG and this is without Tracy McGrady. Not only that, but our defense hasn't lost too many steps (not quite what it was, but still #4 in the league in terms of points per 100 possessions).

Two 50-win seasons with injury-riddled rosters? Sounds like an awesome coach to me.

I've always liked Rick Adelman more than JVG except that JVG was so fun to use in Photochops.

I always thought he looked like Dabney Coleman (9 to 5 fame).

    Props to this thread.

No Coach is perfect, but watching these guys truly run Rick's offense has made the games so much more fun to watch. Plus we're winning :D

Shutting down on D isn't everything, esp. when you don't score more than the other team and can't. It was a struggle on offense with JVG.

He had his chances. The Tmac comeback vs. the Spurs, and the Jon Barry kiss of death to the Dallas crowd, and the TMac Bradley dunk were JVG's Houston highlights, for me. The 40-point blowout game 7 a few games later was the low. I wasn't crazy about JVG playing David Wesley all the time, tho.

maybe Deke is saving his energy for the playoffs. I mean, Deke is the oldest player in the league right?

Sigh. JVG would never have 'this team' because it is being built for Adelman.

I think Rick is saving Deke's energy for the playoffs. Deke would be out there battling, given half a chance, when he's 60. The dude is a warrior. I just wish he'd teach Yao to use his elbows.

Forget about Yao Ming, Tracy McGrady doesn't belong in a Rick Adelman offense. I don't even care if he was a prime McGrady, he is not meant for this type of system. I think both McGrady and Iverson have to accept that they are no longer superstars in this league, and that playing with them at times hurts the production of their teammates. They have to accept much lesser roles and be more part of a team. Tracy has never, EVER learned how to really move without the ball or consistently slash to the basket. I don't know if he can be anymore use to us. It sounds like all we need is another slashing 2guard and bring Battier off the bench. Rick needs guys who cut and play fast , period !!

I think JVG would have panicked after the early losses and would have traded the young to for older players. Nevertheless, not let the rookies develop by gving them some freedom to do their own thing on the court

i always liked adelman, and still do. hes a top 5 coach in the league if not top 3

it always bugs me when fans talk down on him like he is a nobody, nitpicking on all the small things "oh he hes too passive in games" "oh hes not subbing so and so out" blah blah blah

the fans that want JVG are suffering from a serious case of grass is always greener syndrome

JVG didn't have scola and landry at his disposal. he had juwan howard as his starter for god sakes and had to go to ryan bowen.

i'm sure if we had just scola or landry during JVG's tenure, we'd be in the WCF already.

it's hard to score when you have to play guys who are usually scrubs on offense too much (bowen, hayes).

JVG brought the best out of tmac and yao. he just didn't have the role players to go with him. it was unfortunate. morey came a little too late for JVG.

um... we still have a ton of hustle players bro.

you think scola isn't a JVG-type player? brent barry? carl landry? and realistically, he just needed a scola to get over the hump with the teams he had.

the only guys who i think wouldn't do much/play much under JVG is von wafer and aaron brooks.
