Im sorry but,This isnt the Spurs. This also isnt going to convince me that a 5rpg forward was a great move. Im also sick of people telling me including that gutless CD that he has to run players through JVG like he is his boss. You make the coach work with the players you get or you fire him. CD is acting like VG has his balls in a purse.
It's a high price to pay for a solid role player for sure. I really wish we had gotten more than just one player in this swap.. or at least another pick..
only jerry west can pull something like this. Offering Battier for the eighth pick and Stromile Swift.... shane of stro straight up wouldnt make sense for them, but neither does battier for the #8... especially when its rudy gay. and to top that we give them stro also?
That is the problem with Van Gundy throughout his career, he isnt exactly one known to be patient with developing players. Gay is a defensive liability which would have prevented him from seeing the court. Unfortunately, we will never get to see what he might have developed into, and if McGrady's back fails again, Gay would have been an excellent insurance policy. For me, the big problem is that when you are drafting as high as #8, you should take a player who can develop into a star. As far as value, Battier is probably worth no more than the 15th-20th pick this year. We way overpaid as it stands now.
MLE, I could see executing... Trade Exception??? I am sure we had one last summer around this time, and CD and Co. had it expire... What makes us so sure that they will use it THIS TIME AROUND??? They will probably trade the Trade Exception for the Lakers' Towel Boy...
i agree. at first i was really pissed, but we can pick a 4 like Wilcox via free agency. also...a third team might be involved because memphis does not want swift so we might be receivng an additional palyer or pick
Why is anyone angry over Swift? He is PURE GARBAGE!!! 6 years in the league and all he can do is DUNK???? I have a better jump shot then him. He will never amount to anything. I gave up on midway through the season. I was so excited about the Rockets getting him last season and thought, like all the experts, that he was the explosive PF we needed next to Yao. I also thought that he would flourish once he leaves Memphsis. I was WRONG and am man enough to admit it. He will never fit with the Rockets b/c Yao doesn't run and TMac is a jump shooter. He might take off in somewhere like Phoenix where they never stop running but in Houston, we need shooters!!!! Getting rid of him without taking anything back is a job well done by Rockets management. We need $$$$ to sign players not keep a "potential" star and a one-tricl pony!!

All yoiu guys are dead wrong and you'll see that come next season. The bottomline is Battier is a huge upgrade over Swift and Rudy Gay as good as he would have become he is still 3 or 4 years away from contributing bigtime to this team. Battier is a very very solid defender, he shot 39.4% from 3 point land and averaged 10 points 5 rebounds 2 assists and 1 steal a game. This was a good trade and you'll see why next season. Just remember this Battier is just the beginning of a total team overhaul not not the end. Go Rockets!!!
Gay's best asset is his offense and his ability to hit jumpers from every-which-way. Defensively, he's a gambler with poor foot speed (or maybe lack of effort?). I will give you he is a good rebounder though for the position. There must have been another flag though, because Gay is young enough and athletic enough to learn defense (a la T-mac)... I dunno, Im still trying to understand how this team can be so stupid.
