THIS. I haven't purposefully read RJ-drivel in nearly a decade with the exception of stuff that is copied and pasted here. I skim over it, and I realize "yep, still a tool."
Nope, his job is to drive paper sales and to increase presence, and he does that well, and sure he stirs the pot, and he misses on some things and hits on others. I never understood the hate for people that toss out their opinions, like it actually offends others, I mean really? Who cares what he thinks....agree or not, but at least people read him....and that is what is important to the ever shrinking news media. DD
Vague: containing no information. If success is measured by how disinterested I was from clicking a headline when the link showed his name in the url, than he was gangbusters. Notoriety doesn't mean he's successful. Ask Stephen A Smith how his ESPN gig is going. For anyone puzzled by what folks like myself want/expect from paid sports writers, go read some of Steph Stradley's stuff. She runs RINGS around every paid chron member.
Interesting that you say that now that they hired him again. Yeah the difference is that in the modern information world, you got to get crap out there fast to compete with blog sites and others like this one.....for hits. And that leads to shoddy journalism in some cases. DD
As others have said, we really don't have any other options. My dislike for Justice has to do with the fact that he is a total flip-flopper regarding his opinions. He also looked like a total whiny biatch when he started slinging a ton of mud at Rick Smith when he fired the Texans strength and conditioning coach, who was a friend of Dick's. Surprisingly, I actually enjoyed RJ on the radio somewhat...
I'm not offended by him...I just find his pieces to be worthless. And they've been front and center for the Houston sports media for way too long. I'm just happy they'll be replacing him with someone else.
No more Dick Justice! But he and Megan Manfull made such a great pornstar name tandem at the chronicle.
 Yeah, but I can read other posts from other members if I don't like what you say... I don't hold a grudge, I just don't like his columns.
His opinions and writing suck. It's nothing more than that. Hoping we get someone good to replace him.
He was already well thought of on a national level prior to working for the Chronicle ...... still, I agree, they helped his profile.
Why? This just proves it's damn-near a worthless industry (maybe not as a whole, but at least these fluff pieces). Let it die. If it's really wanted by the public, it'll show up again.
I didn't realize MLB.com would be a pay raise. Didn't Blinebury get fired from the Chronicle, then end up at NBA.com?
Problem is...he doesn't toss it out there as his opinion. He constantly sells himself as someone with all the contacts on the inside. He sells it as if he's getting real info...but them blowing it off as "opinion" when he turns out to be wrong...which was really often.
I didn't really have a problem with Justice. I thought he was full of himself a little bit in his writings, but I personally enjoyed listening to him on 1560 with John and Lance like a year ago. I do have a problem in general with Houston media. I believe both the sports writers and talk sports hosts in Houston are soft towards making any type of criticism towards any local franchises. Charlie P will, at times, state how he feels, but overall the sports media isn't that great. Too many times have we seen them give these owners and franchises a pass. You can't do that if you ask me.
