The 610 guys drive me nuts more often than not. I wish they'd actually talk about SPORTS rather than blathering on about music, movies, and the rest of the nonsense they talk about. Anyway.... As far as Springsteen goes, I couldn't care less his music. I won't deny his talent, importance, or impact, but when I hear Springsteen, I change the station only a little more slowly than I would for bands for whom I reserve unabashed hatred. Not to say I hate him....I am well aware of his talent, etc....but I can always find something I'd rather listen too....such as nothing at all. Now, how he became so important with such a huge impact is beyond me. Like I said, I can't stand the guy. Nothing of his rocks, imo. But for some reason I am very much in the minority with my opinions on "the Boss", so I'll just smile and be on my way.
Lynus I think it has something to do with his live performances. If you've ever seen Springsteen live you would know what I'm talking about. The man just blows you away with his energy and drive. You leave his shows physically exhausted. He’ll pay for four hours and not blink an eye. I can understand people not being to crazy about him, but if you ever saw him live, you’d probably have a different opinion.
Rich Lord bores me, and Springsteen will be nothing more than just Roy Orbisons back up guitar player
I'm sure Rich is a nice guy, but what bothers me is his lack of knowledge in his profession. I still remember to this day when he said Jordan was picked first in the 84 draft ahead of Hakeem, Charlie corrected him, and Rich still tried to argue otherwise. Or his trademark "I'll get back with you on that". When I think of him, I think of your typical retail sales clerk, it's a crapshoot when you ask him about something, even if he's over the particular department. He could be a nice guy to talk to, just won't know the answer to your question.
I couldn't have said it better myself. Charlie absolutely CARRIED him when they were together. I don't doubt that Rich is a nice guy, but most of the "talent" that 610 is showcasing is sorely lacking in actual sports knowledge. I remember Chance mentioning that Charlie Palilo was THE most prepared guy you will ever see, so I don't know if it comes down to a LACK of preparation on the other guys' part or what? It just seems like they roll out of bed and wing it for the better part of four hours.
I don't want to turn this into another bash/support of certain SR610 on-air personalities...but I agree that as far as sports knowledge is concerned, Charlie Palillo is WAAAAAAAAY ahead of the rest...his knowledge of sports is astounding to say the least...a true 'sports nerd' if I've ever come across one. I listen to his show as much as I can and I usually end up learning a thing or two. One other thing about him is that when he takes a side and makes an argument, he makes it compellingly and I have heard a few callers end up agreeing with him on a given topic because of how well thought-out his opinions are.
