AJ is a speed reciever. The problem is he's always double teamed. You can still pick up very fast recievers in the 4th and 5th round. Therer are plenty of GM's out there that never draft a reciever in the 1st round, Green Bay is one of them and they always have an aerial attack. But we do need another fast reciever to complement AJ's speed. That way he can get more yards from the catches, not just the yards after the catches. He'll have a much easier time when someone is on the other side of the field running for the ball. The opposing team can't be double teaming both of them. As for fantasy football, i'd probably take Mike Williams.
That's what I thought as well, but I guess they want to put the ball in AJ's hands as much as possible so they need another fast reciever to stretch the defense on the other side.
I dont think the Texans will be able to land Merriman. I say they are either going to take Williamson, trade down for Clayton, or take a CB.
I'd be surprised if the Texans took a WR in the first after resigning Bradford today, especially with the depth at WR that can be found in the third round this year. I think we'll see either a LB or a CB in the first. Still hoping for a trade down though.
Have you ever heard of Javon Walker? And of course you can pick guys in the 4th and 5th rounds with breakneck speed, a heart of a gold and hands that would make Kelvin Cato look like Jerry Rice. You've got Bradford coming back, just improve your defense.
Lets get something straight about Bradford. He signed a 1 year deal. This will have little or no effect on how the Texans draft. He will give us depth at the position, nothing else. If the Texans had planned on taking a WR before the signing of Bradford, rest assured that their plans arent going to change. We arent playing for next year, we are building a team. Therefore, we will need a WR regardless of the Bradford signing. The only way we go LB with the first pick, IMO, is if we trade up to get DJ or Merriman. That could very well happen, but odds are against that. Therefore, I think its logical that we either go WR or CB. Plus, Im not really in the mood to trade picks to move up and get an LB. Depends on the asking price, but Im not sure if it would be worth it.
If I were the Texans I'd draft a speedster like Williamson to complement a complete WR like Johnson. I don't think they would measure up to a Bruce/Holt or Moss/Porter combo, but perhaps Tim Brown / James Jett or maybe Moore/Perriman circa 1996 wouldn't be a bad deal.
