Thank you. I tend to agree, that Rice may be a good instant-offense 6th man type, but I'm not entirely sold on the idea. Some of you guys who keep posting that all he's good for is an occasional 3 pointer need to remember that since Rice is an offensive threat, he spreads the defense out. Those driving lanes our guards get wouldn't be there if the defense could cheat off of Rice. Sorry, Rice, but in Rudy's systems, lots of games, that's gonna be your role -- spread the defense, and if they cheat off of you, make 'em pay. (See Raven Lunatic's reference to Pippen hating that role.) However, I do know Rudy also likes to play the match-ups game, so if Rice has the mismatch, you can be sure to see him in the post.
He has a ring? HAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Way to go Glen!!!!!!He was an essential cog in the Laker's machine, that's why the bounced him as soon as they could. He was finished years ago. Glen Rice has nothing left. It is disgusting that he is making 9 mil a year. Wht is more disgusting is that we did an unnecessary sign and trade for him. Just another example of why heads will be rolling soon.
I also like to see Posey start, but I think he need some hard work to earn it, or at least several straight steady games. Anyway, it will happen pretty soon.
He handed Michigan a NCAA championship without getting money from boosters. I don't know if we should ask Michigan or its boosters to pay some of the 9 mil.
I was against the Rice trade from the start. Bad decision, washed up player, wasted money. Like we really needed another "gunner." The LAST PROBLEM this team has is getting Rice more shots, geeez. I agree with him about passing though. You know, Rice might be a good asst. coach.
from the report: Steve Francis said the last thing the team wants to do is interrupt the flow of the offense by getting bogged down in setting up specific players for a certain number of shots. Does it mean they're trying to working on "give the damn balls to Yao". If so, that's a excited thing though I like to reduce shots from Stevie and Cat instead of Rice. Rice has pretty high field-percent of shots, why don't give him more shots.
Rice is right. Get him a clipboard, put him in street clothes, and let him coach. Also, forcibly remove his uniforms and burn them.
A huge part of that "bouncing" was because of his contract....which to this day I'm still stumped as to why we picked it up? At least with the Lakers, he averaged about 16.5ppg. Anyone that actually watches a game can't expect him to play defense. If he's not hitting his jumpshot, get his @ss out of there as soon as possible. That being said, if the player guarding him is a few inches shorter, then I wouldn't mind seeing him post him up a couple times. All in all though, his time on the court is wasted development time for Boki.
Who would you rather? An overpaid Glen Rice or an overpaid Shandon Anderson? Remember the days when we'd call him Shann Anersn because he has "no 'o' and no 'd'"?
Sounds like Glen Rice is saying screw running the same set plays over and over, lets freewheel it a little and concentrate on finding the open man. If thats what hes saying than I agree with him. Rudy seems to be overcoaching, imo. We have players who seem more concerend with completing a slowly developing set play instead of just taking what the defense gives you and finding the open teammate. heres my solution: Toss out our set plays, which seem to be revamped isolations, and let the players play without any set plays and let them create their own offense flow. I bet we'll finally get all five players into a pretty consistent motion.
Does anyone else get the feeling that Jonathan Feigen is trying his very best to discover dissension in the lockerroom? Those quotes read like Feigen was fishing for something from Rice, and went to Francis to tell him that Rice said he needs more shots. I mean, Rice said this very same thing in November and everyone cheered it. What's next for Feigen? "Boki Rotting on the Bench," because he makes a joke "sitting on the bench is like being dead in Counter Strike waiting for someone to revive you." or "Cato's Hard Work not Shared," because Cato was trying to exercise his leadership qualities and tried to call a team meeting and no one came. or "Yao Frustrated Beyond Words," because Colin Pine kept responding to every Feigen question by saying, "Yao can't put his answer into tranlatable words." or "Rudy Tired of the Rockets," because he said, "No questions tonight guys, I'm tired." or "Les Ready to Replace Rudy," because Les stepped in for a tired Rudy by saying, "don't worry guys, I'll get you another coach in here." Then Les leaves to look for one and gets into another conversations and forgets to go back to send another coach to the interview room. or "Mobley Willing to Be Traded for the Team," because he said, "I always want to do what's best for the Rockets." And Feigen juxtaposes that with a Rudy comment, "If we need some changes, we will make them." And Feigen fills in his own blanks from there.
Posey couldn't put in a shot if they put a ladder by the basket. I think Nachbar would be the answer but we won't know until someone goes down. Actually i don't know if Rudy would put him in even then.
It might be a good thing for Glen to get a few more mid-range or post up shots, rather than all of this inconsistent three point shooting. I cannot see Rice coming off the bench as "instant offense". At this point in his career, he is too much of a streaky shooter to be able to come in and score any time he is asked. It would take him too long to get in the flow of the game. Basically, what I'm saying is that it's either he starts and knocks down a few threes every other game, or we need to send him to the end of the bench and give Boki a few more minutes in relief of Posey.
He'll get his chances and that is what he said he was waiting for. This team is still trying to find the right mixes. Posey will get more time, and should. I wouldn't get worried about what Rice says now, most of which is a statement rather than a complaint.
1) Start Posey and make Rice the 6th man.(Probably won't happen because of Rice's ego and old bones. He needs to warm up before he runs down the court. That is why you only see him in the line-up at the start of each half.) 2) Use a three-man rotation at 4 and 5. Similar to what we used during the championship years. Only use the fourth in cases of injury, back-to-back nights, and/or foul problems. 3) Get Yao 15-18 shots. I no longer blame just our guards. Yao is also to blame. He seems to be the first player on our team to need a rest. He needs to get the ball and shoot the ball. He must demand it. 4) This is difficult for me to say but I am starting to believe that Francis would be a better 2-guard. That means Moochie and/or Cat need to go and we need to bring in another point guard. I don't think there is enough shots to go around. Francis needs his shots, then Yao, then the rest. The perfect compliment to Francis would be a player like A Williams from Toronto. He is tough, can shoot, and can defend. If we get Williams then the rest of the team will not have to fight each other to get shots. I believe he is the perfect role player because he does not have to shoot to be effective but can shoot or penetrate if he has to. Also, he takes care of the ball.
There is a reason he is called Rice Whine. The guy has whined wherever he has been. He is complaining about a basic Rudyism. Rudy milks a play over and over until the other team stops it. Rice wants more of a flow. I personally would rather the Rocks have a good flow too, but whatever works. DD
