Your the one that's had the chip on your shoulder from the start of this thread. There's a difference in saying your team's going to win and saying that the other team doesn't deserve to be there. Without going through the entire thread, I don't recall any UT fan saying Rice was lucky to be in the CWS.
With all that being said it should be a great game I am going to the Nebraska game tomorrow night at 6pm and hope to see the Cornhuskers win at least one game this year as opposed to getting swept all last year. I`m just glad to see Nebraska in the CWS and a win would just be a bonus. Believe it or not the Nebraska baseball program has come along way in the past few years.
Some of the rhetoric in this thread is getting a little ridiculous. I hope my fellow Longhorns aren't too proud of the fact that the largest state school in the 2nd largest state in America has a better overall athletic program (esp. football) that a private school w/ less that 4000 students (and that does not compromise it's academic standard when admitting athletes). Check the team stats posted earlier - these teams are mirror images of each other (even in strength of schedule & RPI, "weak" conference be damned). They're ranked 1-2 in the nation &, like I said before, it SUCKS that they have to play each other in the first round, because I'd like to see both schools do well (why can't they re-seed the field after the Super Regionals?).
I'm pissed that my Canes didn't make it to Omaha. Now, we all know who has the best program in college baseball, don't we? (HINT: It's not a school in Texas) BTW - why in the hell do they have these "super regionals" and name them "the South Carolina Regional" and the "Stanford Regional", etc.? Why can't those games be played at neutral sites?? How long have these "super regionals" exist? I always remembered a tournament that had like 48 teams (at first) then maybe it expanded to 64 teams. I thought it was hilarious when these teams that were playing their home games couldn't win their own damn regional.
Buck, read the thread closely. No where do I say UT is undeserving or lucky. too funny. I'm mocking the way they treat Rice Fans when we are underdogs. Poor UT fans; they can't even recognize when their smugness is being mocked. Get it?? Probably not, because they've never seen a Rice fan get politely smug about their chances. These UT Fans just are busting at the seams to call Rice fans "disrespectful" and "condenscending" when one uses that "we respect you; we really do" polite smugness. ....but, but, but "we stand on equal footing with Rice." That comment made my day, especially followed by another one saying I have a "chip on my shoulder"...hahaha I think the gr8-1 picked up on it early... Take a lesson for a very experienced Rice Alumn Buck, wins don't matter when you can get UT fans defensive and pointing at stats before the big game. Here, I'll show you again.
Another one of heypartner's I think I'm so damn clever ruses. Wow, you really are the UT of these things while the rest of us are simply Owls.
The only person that's even brought up respect in this thread is you, heypartner. UT fan's have simply proven your assertions that we were a weak offensive team and lucky to be in the CWS wrong.
1,482 The number of players selected in this year's draft without Jeff Ontiveros being selected. That is total lack of respect for UT's offense. They are a quality team, and that's their best offensive player. When Rice gets disrespected like that, it really chaps my hide. How can they say in today's Houston Chronicle, "many scouts believe the 6' 225-pound masher's future is in the slow-pitch softball circuit." I really do believe UT is a good baseball team, and can stand up to Rice on equal footing, but that comment is outright condenscending. It would really be interesting to see what UT could accomplish had Vincent Sinisi not trasferred to Rice, because UT's great coach wouldn't make Ontiveros the DH.
Not sure why this is directed at me, maybe you should re-read my last post closely. I went to UT, but the arrogance of many Horn fans (I realize most of this thread is all in good fun) irks me sometimes.
Hey, I really do think UT is deserving. They are good enough to "Stand On Equal Footing with Rice." I never said they were lucky, or we would win. I'm outraged you could read that into my comments. I was being politely respectful about your baseball team throughout this thread. I'm sorry I called them a weak offense in comparison to Nebraska, Clemson, Georgia Tech, Notre Dame and Vincent Sinisi.
Apparantly I did fall for it...like I said, you're the UT of wasting time on the BBS while those of us who fall for it are the Owls. Of course, when you have no good sports teams to root for, you have that extra time on your hands. Congrats.
Hangout boy, don't sell yourself short. You guys actually make me nervous as a 1st round oppenent. If we choke it up, I'll be so pissed I swear I'll blame it all on Wayne Graham for not starting Crowder. And if Crowder starts, I'll be pissed he didn't start Herce. Either way, Graham's been here long enough, and it's time to produce. Heads are going to roll if we lose, because this is our year. Sinisi better not pull a Bagwell, either. Maybe I'll start a "Crowder vs Herce" thread to second guess the coach.
0: The # of runs the winner of 3 of the last 5 CWS scored on Rice's juggernaut pitching staff in two games last weekend. 2: The number of runs the crappy Texas offense scored on Rice's "vaunted" pitching staff. 1: The number of runs Rice's "vaunted" offense scored against UT's pitching staff. Hmm... Too bad our defense mixed in a bunch of terrible with some spectacular.
gr8-1, Smokey, etc. What did y'all do to HP in this thread? I mean did y'all block him from posting in this thread anymore??
Well, HP. That's 3 for 3 in another thriller. You guys should beat ND so who knows we could meet again.
I suspect he'll be back if we play again. Let's see, he's already made fun of our hitting and our football team, lol. Next he'll go after our pitching and basketball team. Expect a "you guys got lucky 3 straight times and played above your heads; next time w're gonna throw our real ace at you" type of post. BTW, heck of a play by Omar. Was it Sinisis that was thrown out on that play, lol? Beautiful.
No. 1 juggernaut Rice makes an early exit from the CWS. Crowder (yes, Crowder!) gives up 3 runs in the bottom of the 9th with 1 out. All Rice needed was 2 outs to advance
