So the worst average in the CWS by a whopping 10 points equals weak hitting. Stop posting from the toilet.

Um, I believe UT has beat Rice twice since then, and will smash them five straight years beginning this year.

Heyp, I was implying that you were jealous of the UT overall sports program. In baseall, you guys have been holding your own for the last 5 years or so.

We should start another thread. What will HeyP's excusues be when UT beats Rice for the third time in a row.

OK Smokey, more by the numbers:

how many of you underdog UT fans will say the coach needs to be fired if you lose, even as predicted. You really shouldn't be so hard on your players and your coaches. Mack Brown tries his best, and so does Major Applepie and Daddy's boy. The baseball players will try their best, just like your football team who fell short of expectations. It's OK if you lose, even when you are the #1 ranked team in the nation like Rice, and especially when you are supposed to lose.

Rice has never won a national championship in any sport, ever. How sad is that?!?!

Once again, please explain to me how we fell short of our expectations? We didn't win the MNC, true, but if that is your criteria, then everyone except Miami did that. Any fan that expects his team to win an MNC is displaying delusions of granduer. I expect UT to contend for a MNC next year and for the next 5 years. You have to catch some breaks to win it all. Did Texas lose a game it shouldn't have? Yeah, but every team except Miami (and even they were lucky to beat BC) did that.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but we have last bragging rights on conference matchups. Embarrassing isn't it.

Not as sad as a dozen UT fans here trying to make that point to Rice fans, while justifying why you deserve to face us in the CWS.

    HP,

I'm sorry to inform you 1994 was not the last season of the SWC. In 1995, the last season of the SWC, UT beat Rice 37-13 in Austin.

So in fact, you lost last bragging rights. We showed you out the door of the SWC. Too bad the game was not nationally televised. We were the last SWC Champions ever.

So ALL Rice fans don't know what they're talking about. You guys should stick to baseball.

No we have last bragging rights. Yes, it is embarassing. We own you.

    95, 97, 98, 99, and counting...

Overall: Texas leads all time 63-21-1

So if Rice beats UT on Saturday it won't matter because it's a non-conference game?

I know it's confusing to UT fans to wake up and see yourself as underdogs to Rice. Try to be appreciative of your good showing in the Super Regionals this year despite the worst BA of the remaining 8 teams. It's something to be proud of. Try to forget your teasing, but never quite possible, near miss in football, again. Every football season hurts more than the next, when you are a UT fan.

    I understand. Really, I do.

    I looked again.

Clemson is the No. 2 seed, since the Golden Domers took out No. 1 seed Florida St, that means Clemson is the top seed left.

    Rice is the 4th seed.

My astute grasp of math tells me that the two seed is higher than the 4th seed.

We have to justify why we are playing Rice and that we are underdogs?

    HP,

    A) We are playing you because we did what we needed to do to get to Omaha.

    B) Your assumption that we are underdogs is "crap". We've beaten you the two times we've played this year and we did not throw halsey, bomer or simmons. So don't dare say we are afraid of you.

Rankings in the CWS mean nothing as it's simply a bunch of writers opinions.

We have the nation's top ERA in a tough conference with a typical big school non conference schedule. Rice is good but I'll say it again playing in the WAC hurts you guys in the long run, because you don;t really receive the quality of teams that you need for the likes of what you see in Omaha.

Furthermore, if you think that we are depressed over our athletics think again.

UT is one of those schools like a Stanford, where practically all teams make some form of a postseason tournament and usually provide a good showing.

I think Rice has a fine baseball program, but as iv'e stated over and over we are not a weak hitting team nor lucky to be in Omaha, meaning a cinderella team.

If you don't expect a war on Saturday you will certainly end up disappointed.

You mean competition like LSU, the Duke of Baseball...winners of 3 of the last 5 titles.

Is that sorta like the #1 post-season ERA, because that would be Rice, at 1.84, when it counts most.

You're right; I agree with coach's polls. Like your coach who just stated 2 days ago that "Rice is definitely the #1 team in the nation." He's a smart coach, playing the underdog card, and all.

You do realize that LSU is a shadow of its former self, and that they were, frankly, just happy to not be 2 and done in the post season.

LSU lost its legendary coach Skip Bertman last year, and they felt the effects this year, yes it was a quality win though. However, that said the WAC is a pitful conference compared to the Big 12 so while I think Rice has a very good team, I don't believe I am wrong to say it hurts you when it comes CWS time because of the difference in the level of the opponents.

Also, this year our regional opponent, UH, was ranked higher than LSU and we dispatched them impressively. The game they won it took a great performance by their ace and they only got 2 runs off us.

Rice has good pitching, I knew that coming in. But so do we. We aren't an underdog, no matter what our coach/media says. If you go strictly by the polls sure, but factoring everything in we stand on equal footing with Rice and any other team in this 8 team field.

As far as Augie goes, as you indicated earlier, he is playing the underdog role to loosen his team and furthermore to not give Wayne Graham bulletin board material for his team in a game of this magnitude. If you take that as him believing we really are underdogs, you have some work to do on deception. It's all mind games.

You're right DVauthrin. You are good enough to stand equal with Rice. I believed it after you come back against UH. UH is a fine baseball team. So, that means UT is, too.

See Isabel, ricerocket1 and Buck. Isn't is sweet to read a UT fan say that their prestigious baseball team can stand equal with Rice. tada!!!

Actually, Notre Dame is now the top seed left since they automatically take over the top seed by virtue of defeating Florida State.
