I specifically remember watching MoT have an excellent game against Tim Duncan. What do you mean those guys have him for lunch? He comes out on the pick better than any of our other big guys (though I must say I was impressed with the way Yao played against picks last night), and he gets good defensive positioning. I trust his shot almost all the way out to the 3 point line, plus he has a good post up game. My only complaint is that he isn't consistent on defense. Plus, I'm not sure he's ready to play extended minutes yet. But still, perhaps with more regular playing time, his all around game will develop even further.
mr_gootan, nothing personal, but um...NO! Booth has a ridiculous contract, and I don't think Potapenko's is much better. Granted, Anderson is cool (I think his contract is up), and Radmanovic is a stud, but that still isn't enough to dress up the other 2. Mooch has a bad contract, but its not THAT BAD, Mo is the 2nd best player in the package (which is fine), and Rice & Collier have soon-to-be expiring cap-friendly deals.
If this ship rights itself it will not be by moving an athletic rebounding SF for a immobile over the hill SF. It just does not make sense. Rudy and co. just have not done enough to get that boy (Posey)involved. I would have thought that the team would run more but it has not and it is not going to dominate playing only half court bball. Offensive efficient/scheme should be the focus and not changing the starting lineup. Rice is no answer, take it from me.
Toast, I have all the games and the world knows that MoT just does not have the tools to be a factor against Duncan, Webber, Garnett etc. Please do not say those guys eat everybody. They do but at least you have a chance with EG. How can you not if EG is taller, quicker with longer hands, in addition to being twice the rebounder MoT is. With 8 minutes to go and the game in the balance we should be finished with MoT. Have you seen our record in close games?
If I yield to the lunacy of starting Glen Rice, can there be some agreement to keeping him off the floor in crunch time? I looked up "defensive liability" in my NBA pocket dictionary and there was Rice's picture. Hard double teams had slowed down Kobe during the middle of the game. The hard double teams disappeared from Q4 on. Rice couldn't get off of Fox quickly enough to be of much use on D. IMHO, another bad by-product of major minutes to Rice is Posey's FA status at the end of this season. If you were Posey, would you want to remain a Rocket if you either A) did not start in favor of Glen Rice ...or B) weren't on the floor in crunch time? The Rox have Posey's Bird Rights, but would he remain a Rocket if some of the many under the cap teams offer slightly more?
March 17, 2001. I hate to go back that far into the archives, but MoT didn't play all of last year. Go back & watch that game, and then tell me again about MoT's lack of tools to be a factor against Duncan.
