Didn't look like it to me at all. Never broke his wrists. "Terrible"? Prolly not. Very questionable though. Great game.
To me the check swing call has more to do with the home plate umpire's emphasis when looking for help than the swing itself. As you said, it was questionable but it was a call that would probably be made at least half the time, especially with the way the home plate umpire asked for help. In this case, the batter's wrists never broke, but the bat looked like it crossed the whole plane of the plate.
I thought he went around, but it was close enough to where any good manager HAS to come out and stick up for his player. Even if he knows he's about to be kicked. You gotta stick up for your players.
Yeah, he definitely went around. I'll be at T-Bone's place tonight if you don't have anything going on.
Wow, kinda quiet around here. Beavers win with their 4th best pitcher. Who will take the rematch tonight?
almost as quiet as the Owls bats have been in the past 2 games. edit: 23 straight innings without a run, but congrats on the great season.
Zero runs in two games for the Owls means the Beavers are the first team since the 1992 Pepperdine squad to pitch 2 consecutive shutouts. Despite Rice's lofty ranking, I guess the better team won. What a shame, too. So, there will be no champ from the Lone Star State... this year. I'm officially putting texxx on suicide watch.
Tar Heels should dominate...too much pitching. Rice was the better team, too bad they tripped all over their dicks. Horrible fundamental baseball the last 2 games (& the end of the Miami game too).
LOL...I'm not on suicide watch, as somebody said. I'm very happy with our finish this year. Our team is very young - next year we should be the consensus pre-season #1 team in the country. Really our team was built for a run next year, not this year. This year was a bonus for us. Finishing 3rd in the nation isn't a bad result in my opinion. Definitely better than third in your own regional, that's for sure. EltonJohn Tex - I didn't make it to any titty bars in Omaha. I did, however, notice the freaking ABUNDANCE of obese people in Omaha, though. How Houston ever beat Omaha for the fattest city is truly a mystery. People here are just enormous. I sat next to a blob on the bus a few days ago who took down TWO McDonald's sausage mcmuffins in about a minute. People here just don't even care. Overall Omaha is a great experience if you have a chance to make it sometime for the CWS. The game atmosphere is great. The city could use more flights, more hotel rooms and definitely more cabs, but the residents really get behind the CWS and support it, so that's good.
Well Will Kimmey of Baseball America is already projecting next year's CWS. A lot of the usuals... Texas, Rice, etc.. and my Vanderbilt team which would be new to the field. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncaa/news/story?id=2501529
Hey texx, does the Rice bookstore sell replica baseball jerseys? I want a blue one with the gray stripes.
