LOL a Brad Lincoln supporter? Brad had a fabulous year, but losing his first game in the regional took him down a notch in my book. Eddie dominated in the regionals and super regional rounds. Brad is by almost all accounts a better MLB prospect, and he did have success against the Owls earlier in the year, but I'll take Eddie in a big game over Brad.
bigtexx.. I'm curious how many people usually show up to Rice baseball games, how many people the stadium holds, how good are students about making it out ot the games and how nice you think the baseball facilities are? Curious for a discussion I'm having about what needs to be done to get my own school's program to a higher level (and when LSU is after your coach, you gotta do something).
Sort of like teammates Raynor Noble and Doug Drabek. Noble never duplicated his college success in MLB, but was the Cougars first SWC player of the year.
Rice built a new stadium (Reckling Park) in 2000. It's one of the best in the country, and what I like about it is that it fits the Mediterranean architecture theme that the rest of the campus employs. Its capacity is somewhere around 5,200. Rice students (there's only ~2900 undergrads...) are merely OK about attending games. Fortunately Rice gets a lot of support from the West U crowd that lives around the park. Rice was in the top 10 nationally in attendance last year (see attendance figures below). The real plus for Rice is that it's located in Houston (probably the 2nd best high school baseball in the country behind southern California) and we have an amazing coach in Wayne Graham. AVERAGE HOME ATTENDANCE Team Dates Total Average 1. LSU 36 270,300 7,508 2. Arkansas 28 200,378 7,156 3. Mississippi St. 33 203,276 6,160 4. Texas A&M 26 153,533 5,905 5. Texas 39 204,414 5,241 6. I saw that Vandy's coach was being considered for that job, but all the reports I've read have said that it's really between Wells from Alabama and Bianco from Ole Miss.
He gave up up 2 runs! Jeez. Besides, Lincoln outpitched Degerman in their lone match-up. Degerman has more talent around him, but Lincoln is the better player.
bigtexxx.. I sure hope one of those end up the coach, but I stay in contact with the Vandy coach when I can and I honestly believe he is the real deal as far as a future top coach. When you bring the number 1 recruiting class in america to Vanderbilt, the other SEC schools have to take notice. Next year is supposed to be our breakout year, considering our team is very young and includes the guy who just was named the top freshman in america, etc. This coach has the ability to build a program and learned from some of the best as an assistant at Clemson. The LSU fans don't seem to be big on Wells. I hope they hire Bianco.
a bumper sticker on a porsche? how does somebody with priorities that out of whack get into rice, anyway?
It never ceases to amaze when my fellow Rice alumn argue with a few whiney UT fans in a Rice Baseball fan-support/celebration thread. Is this thread about UT...no! So, bigtexx...let it go. Just ignore the fans who already lost if they want to argue. Instead....Enjoy the moment!!! GO OWLS!!
