I'm not saying they have a good argument, just the best out of TCU, SMU and Rice to supplant Baylor's choice in the BigXII.
Oh ok. I thought you meant they deserve it over BU. Nonetheless, I think SMU has a better overall AD than TCU. Though TCU has been better in football over the last several years, which obviously weighs a lot in the Big 12.
? Aren't the Frogs doind well this year? I haven't checked up in a while. They have a nice new stadium, opened up this season.
Very true. It also beats going to jail, playing in an illegal professional league, and having an assistant coach engaging in illegal activity.
I got to park in the Sr. lot like 2 or 3 times my Sr year... I woke up too late, so I would be forced to park in the Soph lot, next to the fieldhouse. It was so fun hiking a mile to go on the overpass.
Honestly from the state's perspective it should have been a nobrainer for UH to be the 4th team sent to the Big 12. Increasing UH's overall visability and profit potential in the sports programs could have helped the state's bottom line. Certainly UH had a case as strong as Techs (enrollement, tradition and 80s though early 90s comptetiveness in men's BB and football--the money making sports). At the time I was at UT and wanted us to go to the Pac-10 and screw everybody else (take a path to be the one, unquestioned, lead University of the state in terms of sports and academics that UT seems to get getting anway ), I don't remember much else after that didn't work out (I think the Aggies must have thrown a fit). But unlike West Texas/Lubback, the Houston area politicians and lobbiests must have been a sleep once the next coalition emerged. On the other hand maybe UT and A&M worked hard UH wasn't included thus weakening their grip on Houston area talent.
haha ya, it is somewhat slimy, and the explanation as to why Baylor got in. I'm sure Anne Richards had some pull, but it's not like the Big 12 was refusing Baylor's entry into the Big 12, for the reason I listed above. Had the Big 8 originally had a private school among the 8 schools, then I can guarantee you that UH probably would have joined TTU, UT, and A&M to the Big 12. If you look at all the major conferences, they each have an "obligatory" private school. Pac10- Stanford. Even if they were public, Stanford would still be in it, as they are usually #1 in the Sears Cup. Same can be said for USC. SEC- Vandy. More than likely would not be in the SEC, if not for being the lone private school in the SEC. ACC- Wake Forest. Decent enough to be in the ACC no matter what. Big 10- Northwestern. More than likely would not be in the conference, especially when Penn State entered in 1992. Big East- Miami. Probably would be in it no matter what. Obviously a football powerhouse and usually in baseball.
After what happened with Bleacher gate last year, Im glad Cougar High didnt get into the Big 12. It's ashame that even without those bleacher seats, UT still had a 2 to 1 advantage at Robertson stadium. Home Field advantage - what a joke.
Now 29 straight victories for Rice!!!! And the best news of the weekend is that Herce, our ace from last season, pitched for the first time this year today. He's been out all season with calcium deposits in his arm. Now that we have our ace back, maybe we'll start winning a few games!!! We basically have 5 aces on this pitching staff. Truly dominating.
I can't foresee Herce being the ace again, because of the quality arms that Rice has. I think he would fill the role as long reliever/setup guy VERY VERY well. Humber, Baker, Niemann, and Townsend probably constitute the best 4 starters in the nation. Add Herce to the mix, and Rice is just ridiculously loaded. Then toss in Aardsma in relief... I'd like to see Herce become the 8th inning setup guy before Aardsma.
Now 30 straight wins for Rice, after we humbled the Aggies tonight, 8-0. I commend Texas A&M for their 3 hits, one of which even left the infield.
Yeah, nice to have the Aggies down in force tonight to break up our streak. Townsend is unreal. This streak is great, but I just hope we're playing this well when the CWS rolls around...
I'm just happy that after 5 glasses of water I'm now starting to regain my voice. I spent the better part of 5 innings screaming at the first base umpire for his blown call in the 3rd on Jorgensen at first base and then screaming at the same ump who initially called Sinisi's second homer an out. When the Ag outfielders couldn't produce the ball, he *still* didn't signal homerun. I was livid. I was using my game program as a megaphone and leaning over the Rice dugout yelling at the top of my voice. There is no doubt that he heard me loud and clear. It was honestly the worst piece of umpiring in the history of organized baseball. Don Denkinger's call on Jorge Orta in 1985 was bad, Eric Gregg's liberal strikezone with Livan Hernandez was bad, but this was even *worse*. Herce pitches tomorrow. I'm looking forward to seeing him bounce back from injury.
In other news, Rice finished out its Big XII schedule at 6-0, thereby clinching the Big XII championship. This win streak ain't built on cupcakes, folks.
