The original Twin Towers got us to the finals. Had Ralph not fallen in Boston & wrecked his knee, we would of had some rings with Twin Towers. I voted "no" because I agree with Solid & Asian that Minny wouldn't trade KG & a #1 for a damaged T-Mac + Head & a #2. If KG is putting up a fuss to get out, then I still don't see them including a #1 in the deal.
There's a third option. What if we can't possibly know? What if he's feeling as healthy as he ever has or even feeling more healthy than he ever has but the prognosis is that no one can be sure if he'll relapse? This is exactly the situation we went into this season with. Do you think MN would have offered the trade then? I'd say maybe. I expect Minnesota probably wouldn't do the trade without total assurances given the two additional relapses this year, but if they would I'd bite.
Anybody that says that says that KG and Yao wouldn't work is smoking crack. First of all, it'd be like the Spurs getting Duncan and pairing him with Robinson, except Yao is now in his prime, and KG still has a lot of good years left in him. Second, all you people that think that T-Mac is the perfect match for Yao, how many of you keep begging for an upgrade at PF that's impossible, because we've got so much money tied up in T-Mac. Hell, T-Mac for Elton Brand is a great deal, T-Mac for KG is the deal of the century. If T-Mac is tradeable for anybody, the only deal better is T-Mac for LeBron. I'd take KG over Kobe, and KG over Dirk, KG over Wade, etc. Third, for all of you who think that KG isn't clutch, that's what happens when the second best big man on your team is Khandi-man. The guy gets triple-teamed in the playoffs. Same with Yao late in the game. That won't happen if they play together. T-Mac and KG are comparable talent. A cheaper version of T-Mac is a lot cheaper and easier to find than a cheaper version of KG. 22/12 forwards aren't exactly falling off of trees.
That's what I'd be searching hard for - a perimeter scorer. On this team, I'd rather have Allen or Pierce (in that order) than KG. But if we could land someone like Cassell and/or Mobley (or same type of player), then a trade for KG would give us improvement. But I think a Tracy for KG wouldn't help us too much and might cause some congestion in the post (w/double teams etc).
This trade is stupid. With a healthy Tracy, this team has a good inside-outside combination. Trading for KG makes this team even more one-dimensional given the fact that we'll have no perimeter players who can hit an open shot when the defense collapses. Outside of Yao and Tracy, our other starters would be coming off the bench for any other playoff bound team. They should be coming off the bench for this team too. This is why we are sub .500 when we do not have either superstar. While I'm ranting, Ryan Bowen does not belong in the NBA. His shot looks worse than the 40 year old running pick-up games at the YMCA. We need a PG that can lock down defensively, a SG that can hit open shots, and a PF that isn't 37 years old. Who I'd like the Rockets to trade for: Troy Murphy Free agent targets: Matt Harpring, Keith Van Horn Draft: Reddick or Morrison.
I AGREE ITS NOT TIME TO BLOW UP THE EXPERIMENT YET, WE HAVE TO FIND A BETTER SHOOTING TEAM FOR THE TMAC-YAO COMBO TO WORK. WITH VAN GUNDY THE DEFENSE WILL ALWAYS BE THERE, BUT ON OFFENSE WE ARE PATHETIC AND IT IS FAR TO EASY TO LOCK US DOWN WHEN THE SHOTS AREN'T FALLING. KG IS GREAT MAYBE MY FAVORITE CURRENT PLAYER BUT HE DOES NOT HAVE THE COMPLEMENTARY SKILLS TO GO WITH YAO. THIS TEAM HAS A 68% WINNING PERCENTAGE WHEN WE HAVE A FULL ROSTER ITS NOT TIME TO PANIC, ITS TIME TO RETOOL AND TRY TO AQUIRE SOME DEPTH, SHUFFLING SUPERSTARS DOES NOT ADDRESS WHY WE STUNK THIS SEASON.
Open your eyes a little bit, people. KG and Yao would not be a one-dimensional, trip-over-each-other combo. KG hitting Yao with a pass from the high post. Sweetness. We'd get all the rebounds. And something else: I doubt the trade would go down exactly as Bucher writes. KG would be our PF (although he could play the 3 and 5, too). Since the Wolves seem to be aiming for athletic, I could see Stromile in the deal, with us getting back, say, Trenton Hassell. Whether any of this is true? Who knows. But the fire seems to have gone out of KG's belly recently, and he's one of the most competitive guys in the league, usually. Sometimes players have "biding time" written all over them.
but neither guy has gotten their team over the hump, both playing without great talent except last year for mcgrady and yao, and both put up great stats. I don't see how you could argue either one is much better than the other let alone t-mac. KG at least can say he did most of this work in the better conference.
Oh, I think the two would be an incredible duo... almost illegal. If Tracy were healthy, the league would be saying that about Yao and McGrady, and our record would be outstanding. I don't think something like this would go down, for a host of reasons, but I can't believe there are some folks who think Yao and KG wouldn't be amazing as a pair.
First of all, they were in the same conference last year. And secondly, T-Mac has had only 1 try with Yao, and we got to game 7. KG has had many tries and he never got a championshipWe should have gone to the second round, but that's not entirely T-Mac's fault. The point isn't to argue whether T-Mac is better than KG IMO, it's who'd be better for this team. You never know that KG would or would not. I say give T-Mac another chance with his health, he should get one more season. If we don't win the championship next season with a healthy McGrady, oh well, keep trying.
This is only a rumor, won't happen. Why should Minny take this trade? It has been proved that even a fully loaded T-Mac was unable to carry a team like Magic, if Minny wants to rebuild without KG, do you think they are dumb enough to rebuild a Minnesoda Magic? This is the worst timing for both teams to do such trade. T-Mac is untradeable, technically, although not untouchable. If there has no favorable trading idea, I am prone to keep him. The biggest problem of the team now isn't T-Mac's back, it is the supporting cast. It seems currently we may have the worst supporting cast in the league. If we had an average one, maybe we have already dumped Lakers and Kings in the playoff chase despite those injuries. Every team may have injury problem, but ours is exposing our own problems more outstandingly now. In the offseason, get rid of those useless scrubs, find one or two young studs in the draft like Mavs did, also get one or two quality role players by trading or the free agent market, then even with a 70% T-Mac on the court next season, we still have a good shot to beat Spurs and Mavs, the other things will become easy.
He hasn't been 100% for a while...I gurantee you this will happen agian next year...I hate to say it, but I see it comming.
Maybe its just me but man I love T-macs game and ever since he was accepted in Houston for his press conference when he first got traded with the overwhelming ovation here and his fire last year against the Mavs and his dissapointment and him saying " I will be back. We will be back." That left a lot of hope and expectations and this year everything that went bad did. I just hope and wish he can come back healthy and prove the naysayers wrong. T-mac knows he has a monkey on his back of never being able to get past the first round. I wanna stick by him and see him succeed.
