Well, that would be pretty damn fantastical, all right. I'd do it in a New York minute. We should be so lucky. Howard puts Houston back on the map. We're suddenly a destination and a fixture on TV. No way the gods smile on us like that. Of course, he'd have to agree with an extension.

I only assume because the analysts continue to raise it. The post I was responding too suggested that morey pulled the cord on the deal in December when the request was made for younger talent.

My understanding of all that was different in that Kupchak pulled the plug on the entire affair because Stern had already blown LA's cover on the trade and cost the team Lamar Odom in the process who was demanding to be traded once he found out.

Kupchak said in effect, "enough of this nonsense, its' going to ruin our team" and pulled Gasol off the market and the Lakers out of the deal.

I'm not even sure Mitch is ready to go back into a deal. I think the Lakers were so angry and so betrayed by the commissioner's office, it's very possible they won't trade on any basis during this deadline and the last team they would think about trading with is Houston.

As for Dragic, the guy is a backup point guard on an expiring contract. The Lakers know as well as anyone else does, that they could have Dragic or someone very close to his skill level just by waiting until the summer and it definitely wouldn't cost them Pau Gasol.

Scola isn't necessary at all unless Gasol is being moved. Kupchak wants a star powered point guard (either Lowry or Rondo) just he did last December and he's on record for saying so, but he's also content to simply hang onto Pau Gasol at this point.

Trading isn't an exact science and the value of trades are not clear cut because the teams involved are trying to satisfy different needs.

When I watch the Rockets their problem isn't so much scoring or distributing the ball, they have plenty of that. It's much more about defending the basket and consistent rebounding. The Lakers problem is in the reverse.

You would think that would make them good trade partners but this ultimately takes us into discussions about who's more valuable to their team and then consequently more valuable in trade.

It's not a basketball knowledge problem. Both teams would be risking something with the change but also having a strong potential to improve their respective clubs.

    Rowdy:

The Lakers have already talked to Cleveland about Sessions and a first round draft pick would get that done with them right now and we don't need to give up Pau Gasol.

Ramon Sessions is not Kyle Lowry or Rondo HOWEVER. He's a backup point guard who couldn't hold off Kyrie Irving for the starting job in Cleveland.

Kupchak is not an idiot. He knows Kyle Lowry is a special player.

The Rockets won't get Gasol just because they brokered a deal with a third team for a second rate point guard that the Lakers could have made without their help.

I'll make it as plain as I can. From everything I've seen and read, if the Lakers can't have Lowry, then the Rockets can't have Gasol. PERIOD!

The Lakers are completely okay with holding onto to Gasol and there is plenty of pressure on Kupchak to do that if he can't make a really amazing deal for the Spaniard.

That is what the Rockets and Morey are up against.

Bingo! What I've been saying all along.

Perhaps the right answer for the Rockets is to push back from the table on this one.

Whether Gasol is worth it or not, it's okay if Houston concludes that Lowry is too valuable a piece to part with. It's really hard to argue with that line of thinking.

But you have to realize that the Lakers aren't going to capitulate and just hand over Gasol to the Rockets for a combo of second stringers and starters with no star power.

They're better off just keeping him then and finding an adequate point guard another way.

Neither are the Lakers and they have Kobe and Bynum. Why will Pau make the Rockets any more of a contender? IMO - there is a 3 year window to do it.

The Rockets are not 3 years away from contending.

I hate the debate around Gasol. Either trade for him already or leave him forever.
It(he) aint pretty. Be relieved that the trade deadline exists and hope again after this lock out shortened season.

How on earth can you conclude the Rockets aren't three years away from contending? How could you possibly know what moves the team would make over the next three years, and how players will develop, including the ones who are now playing overseas?
