In two year???? Kobe won't be . . KOBE!!! The Zen Master will be gone . . . . Makes no sense to me unless he will just be looking for a payday Rocket River
if they dont win a championship this season and things arent going well by next seasons trade deadline he could demand a trade and still be in kobe prime, i dont blame him boston and miami have a big 3 as well as possibly the knicks by that time, things arent looking well for teams like us with any super stars. still lets not panic.
You guys.. I'm speechless.. Lakers WILL contend even when Kobe is gone. They're the freaking Lakers! Kobe doesn't matter. They will build around Howard. They have great management.
Dwight/CP3 duo would be UNSTOPPABLE:
Hold on, but all the NBA2k11 people was telling me that Dwight, Hedo and Arenas were going to be unstoppable!
If D Howard would be expecting anything close to a Max contract, it might be difficult to pull off. Kobe Artest Gasol Blake would be in the final year of their contracts and they would easily represent over 50 million in salary. Artest might have a trade kicker that would make it costly to move him to create more Cap space to offer more money to D Howard. Shaq was paired with a young Kobe that was still developing. D Howard being paired with an old Kobe that would be declining wouldn't be the same. Swapping Gasol for D Howard would be a fairly lateral move. Swapping Kobe for D Howard would be a surprising move. Kobe probably still has some trade approval in his contract. Gasol and D Howard would be dominant around the basket, but the Lakers could possibly struggle to have a quality perimeter game.
The Lakers were the team to be with in the 80s and have been again for the last dozen years. That's probably not going to change.
I have to say that Dwight Howard is one of my favorite, if not my favorite, players outside of the Rockets. It would be horrible if he went to LA to get a ring. He's been close a couple of times already in Orlando, why leave?
If you believe in social " experts " analysis about what "Generation Y" is, maybe we're seeing a little more of that. People who consider comfort and fit and are not as "corporatized" (= loyal and professional to a point) Howard wouldnt be the only ring chaser or only player going to a bigger market, thats for sure. I'm including the Lebron, Bosh, Amare and Carmelo pursuits in it as well.
You know, i hear it's really hard for the lakers to attract talent, and having dwight howard would make it harder.....
The Lakers will find another young Kobe to go along with Dwight if he goes to LA. It's the freaking Lakers...
New league now. If you're good enough, you force your way to the city of your choice: NY, LA, Mia, or Chi. Only scrubs have to stay in the villages that drafted/made them: Memphis, Utah, Toronto, etc. But you know? It's also their choice. If they fulfill their contract and decide that they want to live/work in a nicer city, that's their right and prerogative. All of us gauge our work opportunities the same way. You couldn't pay me enough to move my family to Detroit. Maybe I'll take a paycut to move to Austin for a better position. As fans, we get a little carried away with our sense of ownership over these guys and expecting stars to stick with the team that drafted them. They had almost no choice on draft day, why should they love and bleed for a city just because that team took them? That said, I don't have any love at all for the new trend of twisting the organization's balls to move them ahead of free agency.
