Bill Simmons proposed trade, hah. http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=234l9e5 Spoiler To Denver: Mike Conley Eddy Curry Vince Carter Danilo Gallinari Anthony Randolph Wilson Chandler To Orlando: Chauncey Billups Kenyon Martin Kaleena Azubuike To New York: Carmelo Anthony J.R. Smith Haddadi Ryan Anderson To Memphis: Jameer Nelson
sportsguy33 Last thing: NYK can't afford to wait until summer '11 for 'Melo. He's gonna get traded in-season & might like his new team. Can't risk it.
everyone has Melo being traded for expirings, but if he is planning to leave, then they'd be trading a good player with an expiring for a bad one with an expiring. Denver's gonna want something back. This is why the NBA needs a franchise tag.
Melo to the Rockets would be awesome, but if we do trade for him why would he sign an extension with Houston? He clearly wants to be a Knick
If he won't sign an extension, we simply won't deal for him. We might help along a deal involving another team that might bring us a player/picks/etc. that could help us, but we'd never do a deal for Anthony without knowing we would get that extension.
Morey walked away from the Amare trade when he refused to extend as part of the deal. The Rockets could still offer a C-grade trade, knowing that Carmelo won't extend. I could see Cuban also rolling the dice that a Dirk-Melo playoff run might convince him to stay. Carmelo has to be careful though - if Denver tells him they won't trade for the Knicks' craptastic offer...he has to decide what he wants more - the extension or being in NY.
sounds like you're very funny. unfortunately, you're not. do you know in this world changes are seen everywhere? in two years, today's knicks can be completely made over. one day when you wake up, you see knicks and will say - wow, did i take 1 century long sleep?
Regardless of when you sign them you still need cap space. Let's say NY renounces all of their FAs this offseason and is able to sign Anthony. Now where do you come up with an additional $15m in cap space the following year to sign Paul?
Not to mention, Morey was ready to make a play for Bosh last year even without any kind of assurance he would re-sign or agree to an extension.
Per Ric Bucher on ESPNEWS, paraphrasing here: Anthony is only wanting to play in a big market, and Houston, although we have the assets set up to make a deal likable for both teams, would not be a team that would appease Carmelo. Moe
Agreed. The whole idea of trading Anthony would be that they didn't want to let him walk away for nothing. So, you get a bunch of expiring contracts back? You are right it makes no sense. If Denver just wanted expiring contracts, then what's the point of trading Anthony? Trading Anthony without getting assets back makes no sense...Anthony IS an expiring contract.
If Carmelo leaves Denver, that means one less top contender in the West, which is good for us. If he goes to NY, there goes the value of our NY picks, but I don't think it will necessarily mean NY will be better than Boston, Orlando, and especially not Miami. Melo and Amare together will not equate to a defensive team. I don't see Melo joining CP in New Orleans nor can NO afford him. Do I want him on our team? Well, he's leaning toward NY so I won't risk our team depth for a one-year rental. It's the era where players think they can design their own careers. They can choose the teams they want to play on, but not necessarily will it make them automatic champions.
Lets not do this again. Get our hopes up and talk about something that isnt happening. Lets do the waite and see and be pleasently surprsed if this does happen. Nothing to see until he expresses some interest in us or something of that nature.
If he wants to be a loser and go with the Knicks, well **** him. BTW aren't the Rockets one of the most popular teams in China? Why do people use that excuse just to say Houston isn't in to get a big name player like Melo. Were not the Timberwolves!!!!!
Exactly my thoughts. It amazes me that these super athletes apparently dont consider Houston a top market anymore. I don't believe that was the case just 5 years ago. Whether it can be attributed to the Yao injury or not is of minimal importance to the fact that Houston IS a top 10 TV Market, that playing in Houston opens up incredible opportunity for ALREADY popular players in the region. Above all, any basketball fan or player can look at the operation run here and immediately see that really really smart people are in charge and the team is in fantastic position to be great for a long time.
