    Measles has killed millions of people, while peanuts to my knowledge haven't. Modern medicine did massively improve survival rates, but the vaccine is one of the most proven.

    Vaccines aren't mandated. You had the option before. The big fear is they will make moves to reduce the number of people choosing vaccination.

    First, yes a few states do mandate vaccines without any kind of typical exemption (personal belief or religious), such as California.

    Second, the rates don't lie. Measles was not some deathbed disease. It was essentially what generations from millenials and before went through with the chickenpox. Everyone got it.

    And when you say millions died from the measles, are you including the entire world and for what years? Between 1900 and the vaccine coming out, about 29k children died of the measles in the US, not millions.

    Because medical knowledge in the 1960's is on par with what it is in 2024?

    Literally all of it. You mentioned "measles parties" in the 1960's as if it's something that's still going on today. Pretty sure it's not.

    I never said or implied that was going on today. Not sure where you got that from.

    Yeah, people have been making historical analogies and probably the wrong ones in many ways, invoking Goodwin's Law, etc.

    I have been thinking more and more about the "stinking ninth" in China, when the red (oh, how about that!) guard came for one of the key castes of the existing Chinese cultural system, where "ninth" originated in the old Yuan dynasty and referred to Confucian scholars and intellectuals.

    Intellectuals were one of many groups denigrated and persecuted in the cultural revolution. Mao specifically cited "education, science, literature and art, and medicine," as places where "stinking intellectuals" resided. (Talk of May 3, 1975.) They were put into mandatory rehabilitation, which was often brutal. I guess in our version, that would mean profs like me made to walk aisles at NFL games selling hotdogs and beer, getting yelled at, drinks dumped on them, etc. Or maybe scrubbing statues of confederate figures with a toothbrush. Not that I want to give anyone any ideas.

    I think many people would totally go for that kind of thing these days, even based on the tone we see in this forum. Oh well. Had a good run and will play the string out, helping students learn some science for now.

    You will be hard pressed to find me ever having said that. In other words, you are lying.

    during the Cultural Revolution under Mao, some of them (seen as not supporting the communist ideology) were sent to the re-education camps, to effectively work for the Gov't as slaves

    According to Mao, they were put into prisons and work camps so they could understand the conditions of the peasants.

    I could be wrong,

    There had been reportings that YaoMing's mother was associated with Mao's Red Guards;
    she had fingered one of the party members as an intellectual/bourgeoisie, who was later sent to the re-education camp

    does any conservative have a serious response as to why RFK JR is a good candidate for this? Or do they nowadays have zero opinions for themselves but follow mindlessly whatever their deity trump does?

    Voting for Harris was as bad as Trump. You blindly supported Biden and were completely wrong
