I voted for Glen Davis because I saw him in a few college games, and I thought he was the heart of that LSU team. Every time I saw him, he was a matchup nightmare for college teams, and I believed he would be the same in the NBA. He is just unbelievably strong in the post. Now that I've read a little more about Landry, considered his game last night, and read his stats. I might put them neck and neck right now. The thing I don't know about either player is their ability to pass. I just haven't seen either play enough to know specifics. Whoever can do that better would probably have a better future next to Yao on the Rockets. The funny thing is, both players have better per 48 minute stats than Tyrus Thomas (left LSU before Davis for NBA) and Chuck Hayes (starts over Landry). After seeing 2 LSU games... I would never think Thomas was better than Davis. Davis was a wrecking ball that was covering for Thomas's weaknesses. If Landry can perform remotely close to last night's level on a regular basis, I don't see how Hayes will remain in the rotation all year. Landry's career high stats are already as good as Hayes, showing that his ceiling is much higher. If Landry were to perform competantly in a playoff series, and just mix ONE 20 point game into the series, he would be a huge success this season. We just need guys that can pick up the slack every once in a while if the matchups go their way. Unfortunately, Hayes will never do that. BTW... excellent thread topic.
clearly? i dont think its that clear at all. Albeit limited minutes, laundry has better stats than davis. A tweener? How is a guy 6'8 250-ish a tweener? I would also contest against the claim davis runs the floor better and is a better passer. Passing may be a push, but i think landry runs much better than davis. Davis does have his strength, but landry is hardly a pushover too. It would be nice to see what would happen if landry did get more time and we could get a better picture, but every time landry has seen time he's produced
Josh McRoberts, oh and Tiago Splitter over Brooks while we are on the subject of the last draft. We already have a starting PF and thanks to the trade with San Antonio a good backup, so why not pick up the guys that are probably not going to help in the short term, but are high potential for the long term? Oh and McRoberts per 48 stats are 27 points, 14 rebounds, and 6 blocks on 100% shooting.
Not having seen much of Davis it looks like he plays mostly around the basket where Landry has plenty of range. Man, was he aggressive last night. Looked really good, there was one rebound he got while he was under the basket off the front of the rim. I jumped out of the chair on that one. Landry long term over Davis!
I was really wanting Big Baby on draft night when we got the 31st pick. But, I'm slowly switching over to Carl. He has been the more efficient player in more limited minutes. He's a better rebounder. It all depends on how they both develop. Big Baby would be a really interesting player if he dropped about 25 pounds of flab.
Davis would not be playing here over Hayes and Scola. Bottom line. Landry is quicker, and explosive. I would never trade him for Davis. No interest at all in that proposal.
