A sermon you won't see at the RNC or on Pat Roberson's 700 Club or the rest of the Christian Broadcast Network "Jesus was a brown skinned Palestinian Jew"

Yeah I really don't understand how we don't have a real socialist christian movement in this country... moral high ground, brotherhood, quoting Jesus.

The hypocrisy of a 'group hating' Christian is counter to the message that makes the religion compelling.

Very much enjoyed his sermon. I love the African American ministerial rhetorical tradition.

When he talks about "immigrant rights" is he talking about legal or illegal immigrants?

Did anyone else notice that the invocation at the DNC event got kind of rowdy and irreverent?

Hillary's deepest moral values? Whoa... example?

I thought this was pretty funny and also pretty cool.

I don't think God cares what nation you came from.

Then I'll take some of your money, thank you. I'll be by in a bit; have it ready.... since it belongs to God, too. So you want chaos?

    Freedom is chaos

That's the paradox. Most people that scream freedom really want a particular order.

Everyone wants order. It's a matter of where you draw the line and insert restriction.

That's absolutely correct. Unfortunately, the right's current definition of where that line is puts intelligence, science, people of color, people who want everyone to pay their fair share, people who want to be able to use the government as a tool to help it's citizens, people who want equal rights for all, etc., on the wrong side of that line.

How does this make sense when the freest countries in the world are the least chaotic?

I get that freedom can cause chaos if all are not treated equal. But that's not the only situation under which freedom can exist.

I would argue that if you have equality of opportunity, every additional freedom will accentuate stability.

Freedom to be at the mercy of oligarchs is not really the freedom everyone is talking about.

#1 it depends on your definition of chaos within a social system, so let's say "freedom" means everyone does what they want (fewer social constructs). But most freedom loving Americans do not want you to follow Islam or smoke weed or love the person of your choice or not be white.

The differences between the teabaggers and treehuggers are just what freedoms to limit. Libertarians are closer to supporting freedom, but it's easy to see how chaotic a society with no limits on people would be i.e. I like to drive on the left, I want to raise pigs in my neighborhood etc. The desire for 'freedom"is a false political slogan. It's really let's limit freedoms my way.

Back on point, when will there be a a revival of a truer Christianity in the US ?
more peaceful, passive, tolerant, cooperative and loving?

Is it fair to assume that the people you refer to would act the same way if they were brought up and lived and studied and were raised in a society that has equality of opportunity?

I don't think so. If you look at their arguments, they feel like they're getting shafted.

Anyways, back on topic. It IS shocking that there is no Christian socialist movement. But I'm not surprised that this group has been disassembled since the 60's.

There were leftist Catholics that were against the war in Viet Nam, that and Quakers is about all I know. I think a lot of Christianity is about the sublimation of the id (not a psychologist). It's a tough road for philosophy and reason to overcome a million years of evolution.
