The theatrical cuts made to ROTK are the only beef I really had with Peter Jackson's trilogy. While I enjoyed the extended cuts of the FOTR and TT, the cuts really made sense. In ROTK I feel like he really made some bad cuts to some pretty important stuff. I understand you have to cut down a film for the theaters...not just so people will go to see it, but also because a theater has to be able to show a film so many times a day to make money, and you really cut back on the number of showings a day with a 4 hour flick...you've already cut back with a 3 hour flick, but a 4 hour film couldn't pull it off. It could have been cut better.
dude, the $59.83 is just for the EE of Return of the King.... the $77 US is for the boxset of all the EE movies.......with the xchange rate what it is now and i allowed 10Us for shipping that makes it $112 aussie dollars, according to ezydvd the box set will be $144 aussie dollars
Are you kidding me. This movie had a complete lack of long talky anything scenes. Seriously, there might have been only about 2 or 3 dialogue scenes in ROTK that lasted at least 2 minutes. I really enjoyed the movie and all but let's be honest, it was pretty much a visual wonder, with a lot less emphasis on character development. In the above trailer, Elijah Wood even mentions that the extended version has more of the "character development moments". And regardless if they cut out dialogue scenes or action scenes, the reason they do it, is because it's tough for most people to sit in a movie theater for 4 hours. BTW: It looks like they have a scene with Faramir and Eowyn falling in love in the Extended edition. Since, this happens after the climax of the movie during the time of it's numerous endings, I can't think of a worse example of an unnecessary, sappy, "Lifetime" scene.
Actually, Faramir and Eowyn falling in love happens after the battle of Pelinor fields, but before the battle at the gates. They ride out and meet the "mouth of Sauron" and fight an army just as Frodo is destroying the ring. DD
I haven't seen this listed anywhere so maybe you guys know. Will the scouring of the shire be in the EE?
I read somewhere it was 11hrs and 38mins or cant remember the 38mins but i know for sure its between 11 and 12 hours. hey if you have a big screen ... invite me over!
I take it you havent read the books. Faramir and Eowyn's time at the Houses of Healing was a good addition I think. It was one of the first clues for the common people to realize that Aragorn was the true King of Gondor. It happens right after Witchking is defeated and before the march to Mordor by Aragorn. It is before the climax of the movie. Its been about a year since I've re-read the books but I do believe that Merry isnt involved during the last fight in front of the gates because he too is still healing after his encounter with Witchking. The ending that Jackson left out and for good reason was the Scouring of the Shire and the true deaths of Saruman and Grima (I read somewhere that in the EE there is reference of Saruman's passing but its not shown). That had no real effect on the whole story really, except to show how far the 4 hobbits have come from when they first left the shire. It would have killed and emotional high from the climax for sure. To his credit I believe the scene that Jackson foreshadowed in the first movie when Frodo looks into the cauldron of Lady Galadriel was in fact reference to the scouring of the shire. So the scene wasnt completely left out for the super avid LOTR fans
I feel bad for you. You should also ask yourself the question ... why does everyone on this planet (most everyone) enjoy these movies and I don't?
I was wondered wtf happened to Saroman (thats the evil wizard dude right? or is the big eye? I mean to talk about the wizard guy)
Saruman is the white wizard Gandalf visits only to find that Saruman has betrated him and the others. Sauron is the big eye, its easy to get the names confused if you've just seen the movies
Saruman throws away the "white" label and calls himself Saruman of many colors. He has been corrupted by Sauron, and his stronghold Isengard is taken out by Treebeard. Gandalf comes to him, but he refuses to leave his tower, and Gandalf leaves Treebeard to watch over him. Treebeard let's him leave and Saruman renames himself Sharkey and takes over the shire with Grima Worm tongue. The hobbits return and rise up against Grima and Saruman and drive them out....Saruman starts blaming Grima and Grima loses it and kills Saruman, and then the shire folk kill Grima. DD
