Re: God of War: I LOVE this game! I spent a lot of my youth immersed in studying various mythologies from around the world, and this game was damn near perfect in my eyes as an action game. The variety present in the puzzles to solve, items to collect, and moves to learn complimented the unbelieveable ass-kickery perfectly. For anyone who owns a PS2 and enjoys action games, God of War is a must buy.

And RC, I just wanted to say that I really enjoy all your threads on gaming. You obviously put a LOT of effort into writing these threads, and I really appreciate your threads. Keep up the excellent work, man!

I bought a used copy of Prince of Persia: Warrior Within at EB Games a few weeks ago (for like $15). Having never played any of the games in the series, I was pretty impressed. The combos are badass.

As for computer games, I've gone back to my old mainstay, Planetside (still the only MMOFPS on the market... after 4+ years), which has provided me with hours and hours of enjoyment... FOR FREE. SOE is offering a free year of playing under its Planetside Reserves program. Sure, you can only progress to a certain point, but that only affects the number and variety of weapons and vehicles you can access, not your ability to kill other (higher ranked) players. I highly recommend it.

You're right, I forgot to think what happens if you're drunk driving your Escalade around Minneapolis at 2 am? If you don't have any fresh p*rn with you, the party's over dog.

I actually haven't played an '06 MLB baseball title yet so I dunno; but I would think they'd have to be rated somewhere near the top since they went to the WS and primarily kept that roster; offense might be a little low. I still play '04 regularly because it has Bags, Kent, Berkman, Biggio Hidalgo, Ensberg, all with good stats. Can't beat that lineup!

Hmm, well I would try it out but I don't have a PS2 :p I think the major thing I didn't like about the 2k series was the horrible pictching, which couldn't compare to the meter MVP uses; add to that that you can pretty much play MVP entirely using the analog stick now (throwing meter using the the right stick while fiedling, right stick full swing control while batting and then of course pitching) and I'm in love. And I always felt the graphics were a little better in MVP. But how does The Show rate?

If Warrior Within is the only Prince game you've played, then you're really missing out as it's by far the weakest of the trilogy. I'd suggest you pick up the Sands of Time and Two Thrones; I think they're less than 20 and probably only 10 or so at gamestop. Sands of Time is primarily platforming, but it is oh so fun. Two Thrones kind of combines the best of both Sands and Warrior Within and refines the combat system a little. And both of those keep to the magical adventure aspect that made the series fun to play; Warrior Within was just a little too dark and could've done without the heavy metal score.

I haven't played the game (or any recent baseball game), but I've heard good things about it. I know Gamespot gave it a 9.0 out of 10 in this review:
    http://www.gamespot.com/ps2/sports/mlb06theshow/review.html
For reference, MVP 05 got a 8.9, MVP 06 got a 8.0, and MLB 2K6 got a 7.0. DrewP can probably give some better info later on, but you can check out that review for now.

BTW, the game is also on the PSP if you happen to own that.

Sounds pretty good..I'll stick with MVP though, out of necessity and I already know what I'm getting. Me thinks the reason MVP '06 got an 8.0 was because it's college based and is devoid of any atmosphere or a wide selection of stadiums, but of which will be fixed for next year. After playing that I tried out MVP '05, and it just didn't seem improved enough over '04 and on par enough with '06 to justify buying it. For instance, the analog throwing control isn't in '05 (and I really like that) and '06 has a whole new set of animations (you can throw while kneeling on the ground, batter introductions are awesome as they step out of the box and adjust their gloves, etc)

Some of these games are sequels or have sequels, and those other games in the franchises can probably be bought at a similar price.
