Pending the context and sentiment of your response to my quoted statement... I'll either shout hallelujah or look into having you committed...

I hear just fine. Let's see...

These two posters missed the analogy b/c they were looking at the relationship between Reeves/Oulson. The relationship is tangental to the main point of timing.

You missed the analogy b/c you failed to understand that Reeves texted during an acceptable time while Oulson texted during an unacceptable time.

    Were there any other criticisms?

Well, there is the rep I received for the very thing you quoted... It was one word... "Exactly."

They were picking out an immediate flaw of your analogy... I pointed out the overall flaw of the analogy....

Oulson broke social convention by texting after the lights had dimmed and the previews had started. He then escalated the situation by refusing to stop. He should've stayed home.

Except that there wasn't an overall flaw in the analogy. I'd even argue that there weren't any immediate flaws either.

We'll all be looking forward to the moment you shine in that national media spotlight... Fighting that good fight to all things you perceive "logical" can only take you places....

Like Duncan said, they were in a pissing contest. Reeves had the advantage b/c he had a gun. Oulson thought he had the advantage b/c Reeves was an old man.

They were both being stupid with their macho behavior.

What if instead of Reeves, it was Ron Artest who was complaining about Oulson's texting? Do you think Oulson would've thrown popcorn at Ron Artest?

I'll be fine. If someone throws popcorn at me, then I'll have free popcorn to enjoy during the movie....

And here we have another example of wekko's sound perspective... Toss witness testimony (including his own wife's) out the window...! Let's all play armchair psychologist, but to make it more fun... let's take an entirely assumptive approach with all our hypotheses...! Fun had by all!

    Wekko... quit while you're behind...

Did you watch the video? Oulson throwing the popcorn in Reeves's face was a very quick gesture. Being a cop, he's probably more on edge already. In the blink of an eye, Oulson's aggressive move can trigger Reeves's reflex to reach for his gun.

Let's not put that to rest because they were being stupid and macho. No level-headed person would confront somebody and throw popcorn in his face.
And there's no justifiable reason for Oulson to confront Reeves and make a bigger issue of Reeves's annoyance, which in my opinion is well within reason, and create an altercation. Reeves did go to extreme measures to look for a manager, but still had reason to.

I never said they were on the same level of stupidity. But they are both stupid.

Reeves went to go get the manager and when he returned Oulson had already stopped texting. Reeves continued to berate Oulson even though he had stopped.

Reeves was harassing the man, the man's extent of outrage was thrown popcorn... Reeves is a retired EX-cop, not a currently active cop... He's not PTSD veteran suffering a Vietnam flashback... He's a "crotchety old man", whom doesn't even have his wife coming to his self-serving, remorseless defense.... You're excusing his behavior, while previously stating you weren't... Note: his behavior, not his actions...

Again, the extent of Oulson's "rage" was thrown popcorn trigger by verbal harassment over something so minor... Reeve's response to something as minor as a cellphone light and thrown popcorn was a gunshot to the man's body...

One you can lend SOME understand to... the other, NONE AT ALL...

You would think that with someone of wekko's keen insight into the social circumstances of this case... that enables him to make such flawless analogies that lay equal blame, if not greater, on the victim... would know at least the basic details of the situation...

Toss out witness testimony? What're you talking about?

Keep in mind, I think deadly force was uncalled for, and Reeves should go to jail for the rest of his life.

You think that them having a macho pissing contest is an unfair assumption? Why? Reeves is a retired police officer. Oulson was in the Navy.

Based on this, it looks like Oulson was still trying to text after Reeves returned.

That's being assumptive... you take their backgrounds and leap to a conclusion based on nothing else...

Witness testimony, that included his wife's, which said, Oulsen did not attack, or threaten to attack Reeves.... There was no alpha male posturing, he simply threw popcorn in frustration at Reeves continuing to harass him about texting his daughter...

Based on that, Oulson was politely telling Reeves he had just received a voicemail from his daughter's babysitter, and if he could simply respond with text to see if she was all right...

Based on that, the witness couldn't make out what Reeves said (implying Reeves said something first) to which Oulson replied "I am f****** trying to text my daughter!"

Key moment, and keyword... Reeves clearly said something that set Oulson off, likely in the negative to his question about checking on his daughter, based on the situation painted by the witness...

Oulsen's response, does not mean he was texting as he spoke, especially since he was likely confronting Reeves, as he threw the popcorn at him "soon thereafter"...

    It's called reading comprehension...

I find it mildy ironic that two grown people are having a pissing match on a message board about whether or not there was a pissing match in the theater. I find it even more amusing that neither one knows to back off and let it go. And yet criticism is directed at reeves and, to some extent, oulson, who just couldnt let it go. And people wonder how a little situation like that in the theater could have escalated to that point. Just read the last 2 pages of this thread

Not really. By throwing popcorn at Reeves, Oulson escalated the situation from a verbal one to a physical one. You don't make that jump unless you think you have a good chance of winning a physical confrontation.
