Oh, I agree- and that is a ******-up way to live. What a shame that some are so self-loathing and pathetic that they'd kill over that.

I wonder what he would do if someone sitting next to him was fapping and refused to stop.

Along with that we should add that nobody should bring a gun to a movie theater, and nobody will get shot. Don't shoot anyone because they texted and tossed some popcorn and nobody will get shot.

I always keep my gun with me except where officially prohibited (Federal offices, schools, etc). I fully support concealed carry and strict gun laws, but I do not support taking the gun out of the hands of capable and law abiding citizens.
That being said, I don't stand behind this shooter. There was no good reason provided to pull the weapon and fire.

I always carry my iPod with me. Even in prohibited zones like libraries

100% agree with you as I also concealed carry. It's a precious right that idiots like these ruin for the rest of us. Pulling a gun is a life changer and should be respected. It's a last resort, a lifeline.

You are within your rights to carry it. The person was within their rights to text during the previews as well.

But nobody needs a gun inside a movie theater, even if they are allowed. It just isn't necessary, and not having one there would have saved this person's life.

You see, I agree with you that if there was no gun, there would have not been a shooting, but at the same point, if there was no texting, there would have not been a shooting. I'm not justifying the shooting. It was wrong, plain and simple. It was a series of unfortunate events that escalated this situation to what it ultimately and unfortunately ended with.

Personally, I would rather have my gun and not need it than need it and not have it.

If you are in a public place then carrying a concealed handgun is a rational way to secure you and your families safety. Distinguishing between a theater and say a restaurant is illogical. They are both public places and you are equally vulnerable in both places.

Also, suggesting that if there was no gun then no shootings would take place is delusional as you can't ensure there will be no gun at a theater. People break rules.

Regardless of the legality of carrying a concealed handgun and whether or not you think you are responsible enough to do it, you cannot talk your way around the fact that this guy was a former cop who...up to this point...was a respected guy who no one ever thought could do something like this. What's my point? My point is regardless of what you concealed gun carrying NRA folks say...there are situations that can and do occur where an otherwise responsible gun owner all his life encounters a situation where he abuses that right and does something like this. If this guy could do it, then anyone could do it. Oh...well...I'm a responsible gun owner. I could never do that. That's bull. In a fit of rage, a man can and will do anything. If he didn't have the gun with him, then this doesn't happen. I just don't buy it any time I hear a supposed responsible gun owner say I could never do something like that. If the circumstances are right, then you certainly could because just having the gun empowers you to know you could. All you have to do is have your buttons pushed the wrong way.

This statement is illogical. This guy is not the gold standard of self control. Quite the opposite

I don't think anyone in this thread has said that. I think most agree that giving crazy people any reason to target you (especially by being ****ty to them) is a bad idea.

When I was in middle school my friends and I were trolls and threw popcorn at people. Glad I didn't get shot then. I've done my share of movie theater things.... never fapped tho.

I'm sorry...did you know the guy personally before he did this? It's easy to say that after-the-fact.

no, but you are discounting the massive number of adults who are not prone to fits of rage. Clearly that statement is wrong as most people have never had a violent outburst in their life. Because one guy flew off the handle now all of us could? that is illogical. What made this guy so special that he is now the paramount of self control?

How did he know the guy was crazy enough to shoot him? So, if someone does something wrong, should I just keep my mouth closed and not say anything for fear the person might shoot me? This guy had already stalked someone else who was texting in a theater- maybe he said something like "Hey, a**hole, stop texting!" Maybe he was being rude and provoked the other guy into talking back and throwing popcorn. I've had people be rude to me- and occasionally I've said something to them. I guess now what we have to do is never say anything to anybody for fear of being killed. Again, that's a ******-up world to live in.
