Yes, so? How does wanting liquor stores to not have their operating hours restricted by the government fly in the face of asking that their retail employer voluntarily close for just one nation-wide holiday?
Ugh, not looking forward to black Friday. Hate working that day. Although, can't really complain. Last one I'll have to Work.
The fact that our standard of living is so low that the corps can find someone else to do the job should upset you, not the fact that people are complaining. Raise your expectations.
I loved working on holidays. The increase in pay was nice. Now I work on holidays and weekends with no extra pay. Luckily, there aren't many holidays from January - October 15th.
And all these stores should be free to be open any day of the year as well. People who don't agree with these stores, shouldn't work there and shouldn't shop there. It is that simple.
To quote Alec Baldwin from Glengarry Glenross, "if you don't like it, leave!" If you're concerned about working holidays then find another career path. There are lots of people that work holidays and don't complain like: fire dept law enforcement doctors nurses etc.
Lets just replace these employees with Japanese vending machine style storefronts. That way they don't have to work. And their jobs are gone. Hell, the corporations are doing these lower-level workers a favor by allowing them to earn overtime money.
If you don't like puppies don't work at a vet. You don't like crazy shopping days gtfo of retail you jabroni.
Nobody works in retail because they want to. They work in retail because it's the only option available to them. Not everyone gets the same advantages in life.
The government isn't forcing them to be closed or open on these days, and the employees have every right to complain about it one way or the other.
Not true. In college I enjoyed it. Retail is easy as hell and half off at Banana Republic was great. Job paid the bills. People who come in generally know what they want You ring up their crap, talk about the weather Say thanks and send them on their way. Oh boo hoo every now and then I had to call a store to see if they have a size. Man for real, people clean up poop, cut open dead bodies, sort animal organs for a living. Retail is cake. You get to work indoors in the air conditioning. You know how lucky you are? Try picking fruit for a day. Hell try picking fruit for an hour. Have you ever had to dig a 7 foot deep hole under a person's house to fix their waste line? Yeah there are a lot of tough jobs out there. Be thankful for yours.
Well, that's a pretty big red herring you just caught, but I'm afraid I'm going to have to throw it back. And "allowing" them is not the issue here, it seems that many are being forced to work, and apparently not getting OT. Your attitude of "if they don't like it, then f**k em" is really sad. Imagine if everybody had that attitude throughout history, jeez. There's nothing wrong with fighting for better treatment in your workplace.
If you have reached the age of 25 and you are still wearing a name tag, then you probably made an error in your career path at some point. DD
Yes, because this is a free country, and we can complain about any damn thing we want, whether for or against. Doesn't mean they'll do anything about it. But regardless, they should have the option to decide for themselves. These workers have every right to fight for themselves, the fact that this bothers you is very telling.
Out of curiosity, since you're ok with workers protesting against increased hours for 1 day, are you also ok with managers firing these workers for being disruptive?
