Rest Vs Rust

Discussion in 'Houston Rockets: Game Action & Roster Moves' started by smoothie, Mar 31, 2018.

?

How would you balance rest vs rust?

  1. Rest - give guys games off

  2. Stay sharp & conditioned - play regular minutes if 100% healthy

  3. Combo - play regular rotation each game but only in first half, or 1st/3rd quarters.

  4. Other - describe in your reply

Arizas biotype doesn't justify it for every other player. Harden plays even in summer league and while he is a skill type player he clearly needs his rhytm. No offence to Trevor but all he does on offence is sit in the corner & occasionaly drive after one dribble

Plus it's different to let one guy get relaxed compared to let whole team start slackin, it's about team momentum not individual ones and they need to be clickin all at once

I can deal with a little rust if it neans a lot of rest for Harden, Paul, Capela and Gordon.

Playing a few mins each game helps with physical rest, but if the player doesn't miss a game he isn't getting any MENTAL rest. The NBA is a grind, even if you love the game after 82 games you will be a little burnt out. Thats why its important for Harden and co. to get a few games off where they can just spectate like nirmal fans.

So what if they are rusty? This team will easily stomp ever Western team besides GSW anyway.

Then why does every team that has their seeding locked up do it? And can you name 1 instance of a guy becoming "rusty" from missing a couple games. I think it more applys to guys coming back from injury that can't ball at all while they recover.

Im watching the spurs game right now and they all look clumsy. It was no different vs Suns and it's not like there's a switch titled 'lets get serious' - it's the habits and imo we losing our habits now. Not a time to panic but something to look at for sure

Rest. Use the first round to shake off any of the rust.

rest all key rotational players for the rest of the season.

play quarterman, black, hunter, and joe johnson 40+ minutes a night.

    i don't give a **** if they get blown out by 50 a night.

    forgot one more option

run mvp to the ground playing him 36 minutes each and every remaining meaningless game that coach isn't even trying to win

while rest others or limit them to 28 minutes

Gotta get the guys back to playing like a champion again. They'll get their rest after they sweep whoever it is they're playing in the first round.

Ariza seriously needs some rest. He has zero lift on his threes due to cement legs. The guy has been toiling away all season at a young age of 32. Give him the Wizards and the Blazers game off.

We've been damn near invincible over the last 2.5 months.

Now guys are randomly coming in and out of the lineup and losing their rhythm, and the team is losing its edge.

Thanks a lot for tossing Kryptonite into the locker room, Rest Police.

Seems like people dont understand it makes me wonder if those ones ecen played basketball at any level.

Dont compare us to championship Lebron or Spurs. We are not finished product that knows how to play in playoffs so we can switch it on and off. We are building our culture right now. Good thing MDA understands it

I voted other. Play everyone as long as their 100% healthy, but limit them to less than 30 mins.

I don't mind our key players resting. I just hate to watch them coast and stop playing intelligent basketball.

Love coach dantoni, but have to disagree with him on this. Of course our flow and rhythm would be off without cp3. Whenever we've been at full strength it's been amazing.

according to d'antoni, how about neither?

don't rest stars but still be rusty by not playing the whole team and playing at 50% effort
