Oh come on dude, CNN and other news networks was covering it just as much.. Who doesn't want to follow an uplifting human story like this?? It's good to hear some good news coming out of the news every once in awhile..
Just saw the 14th rescue and i had to stop watching because i was crying...i can't imagine being their wife or daughter. Incredible.
A fair point, but comparisons to the lowest common denominator are not terribly convincing. I just think the hoopla is a bit much.
Totally disagree. This story moves people around the world. If you think it is not news that people trapped in a hole 600 meters below the surface of the earth get rescued, un unprecedented achievement in the history of mankind, then .
i'll admit im not worried or afraid for them watching this....i keep reading facebook statuses hoping they come out ok and that they make it, etc...but i have to agree with the poster who said the hardest part was surviving the initial accident. Everything since then hasn't been easy, but it has been at least stable for them. I felt/feel pretty confident they'll all come out fine, especially knowing these guys were all joking and taking everything in stride from the beginning...i guess other personalities may have given in to the stress, but this group handled it like pros.
His post was what I believe to be typical sentiment for other world situations from someone born and raised in the United States, from what I see. More of us who are in other countries or from other countries, in the U.S.A., feel for these peeps, I believe. This is just my opinion.
I think the main risk in Chile is that an earth quake could have messed everything up...they had a lot of those not too long ago.
I hardly think this story is special in that regard, but hey, whatever you want to think is fine by me.
the point is that even with advanced technology, NOTHING IS GUARANTEED. I think trying to downplay this event is kind of ridiculous. Oh, I am pretty sure that if you were their wife, daughter, son, brother or any close relative, you wouldn't try to downplay this event. You would be a nervous wreck even with all of the technology.
The apathy in this country for other countries is sad. My wife and I were watching this last night. She's from Brazil. She and all her family back home are very interested in this. For me, how can you not be moved by it all? These guys lived half a mile under the earth for two months. Obviously no one can really fathom that unless you've lived it. In the meantime, let's get some more posts in this thread from some of the world's only living heart donors.
