We can dream! right! Sounds pretty easy to rescind a trade, by reading these recent headlines. Rockets have all the POWER TO RESCIND if they wish. They don't have to find a broken leg, they can rescind for any type of made up story. Here are a few rescinded trades, I found: Nets Rescind Trade for Shareef Abdur-Rahim Abdur-Rahim East Rutherford, NJ (August 9, 2005)- The New Jersey Nets have rescinded their trade with the Portland Trail Blazers for forward Shareef Abdur-Rahim, Nets President Rod Thorn announced today. The Nets and Trail Blazers had agreed on a deal, pending a physical, that would have sent the nine-year veteran to the Nets in exchange for the Nets first round pick in 2006, lottery protected, and the team’s trade exception as a result of the Kerry Kittles trade to the Los Angeles Clippers in 2004. “We were anticipating adding Shareef to our roster,” said Thorn. “However, during the course of his normal physical examination, some questions arose that gave us cause for concern. After consulting with several noted specialists, we feel that rescinding the trade is our best course of action. We will now look in other directions for ways to improve our team for the upcoming season.” Updated: Feb. 8, 2006, 8:41 PM ET Sixers-Hornets Hunter trade rescinded Associated Press PHILADELPHIA -- A trade that would have sent Philadelphia 76ers center Steven Hunter to the New Orleans Hornets was rescinded Wednesday because of concerns over his physical condition. Steven Hunter Forward-Center NO/Oklahoma City Hornets The trade was originally announced last Wednesday and would have sent Hunter to the Hornets for second-round picks in the 2006 and 2007 draft. Instead, there were questions about Hunter's condition during a physical and the deal was in limbo. The teams had extended the deadline several times so that New Orleans officials could analyze the results of Hunter's physical exam last Friday. "Their doctor claimed something our doctor and another doctor did not view as significant," Sixers president Billy King said in a phone interview. "We were in the process of trying to get some assurances. We had some assurances, and it wasn't enough for them." Hornets general manager Jeff Bower said the trade was nixed based on results of Hunter's physical. There is some precedence to NBA trades being rescinded, once also involving the Sixers. In 1997, a deal that would have sent Clarence Weatherspoon and Michael Cage to Boston for Dino Radja was nullified when Radja failed his physical and opted to play in Europe. Most notably, Detroit traded Sean Elliott to Houston in 1994 for Matt Bullard and Robert Horry, only to have that deal fall through after Elliot failed a physical with the Pistons. Bullard and Horry were forced to return to the Rockets.
Its good to know that this has happened in the past, lets hope and pray that it happens at least one more time. Van Gundy has got to get over his distrust of rookies.
Trade out CD, Trade out JVG, Trade out all Rox management!!! this is the only way to bring rox a champs. Trade out CD, Trade out JVG, Trade out all Rox management!!! Fire CD, Fire JVG, Fire all Rox management!!!
Somehow I just don't think Jerry West is as dumb as the guys that run the Sixers and Blazers. The Grizz had that wired the minute they contacted the Rockets.
Do the fans have the power to convince the Rockets to rescind the trade? Start picketing outside the TC now. Send them phone calls now. Send them emails now. http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=114474 (Email addys here) I believe, let them know what Rockets fans want now.
Is being a "Battier" a bad enough physical deficiency to rescind the trade? I'm sure it has caused several players to lose much of their athletic ability and lower their further potential for other teams. Oh and it is costly, millions and millions of dollars for several years. VERY BAD. Gosh, I sure hope that physical from the doctors turns up his disease.
If they could somehow keep Gay it would create the biggest buzz and goodwill among fans than management could ever plan or market.
My take, nothing is final for 2-3 weeks. They can not release the details of the trade until July 12th (which is just a preliminary agreement). Then they have to submit to physicals, etc.. (Which i guess they can not do until the 12th). So bottom line, this BYC option, will give the Rockets brass 2-3 weeks of breathing room, in case they decided they do not like the deal. Could be worse, their could of been no BYC and the Rockets would be stuck with their 5 minute decision last night
Even if Battier fails a physical we are still in trouble. How would you expect Gay to perform when JVG doesn't want him?
I personally think we will be fine with Battier (better with Gay), but keeping Gay just means we can see what type of trades are out there. or of couse they can keep him. But ROCKETS should dictate Gay's future, not Memphis (or Steve Patterson). WORSE CASE - memphis throws in something to make sure the deal goes through. I am sure they are wanting this to happen, more then the Rockets. This trade deserves a future 1st rounder, or MORE
I blame Les for all of this!!! He hired Morey and Morey did't put his foot down, which he should of done because Battier has the negatives of declining game and contibution which means that he is overpaid- I thought that is what Moneyball is supposed to look at!!
Maybe Battier or Swift will fail his physical because that is the only way this trade will be called off. It gives us 12 days between now and the date of the physical run over Battier on a motorcycle.
Didn't Battier have knee problems last year? Hopefully that will raise a flag, but then again, people get traded with injury problems all the time
