I don't want to get too inflammatory, but this reminds me of something I once told a relative (in-law). He told an n-word joke at a gathering, and even though he's my elder, I asked him to knock if off, at least while I was around. He said "I don't see what's the big deal. They can call me honky, can't they?" This is not an unusual logic you hear from some people, and it is implicit in Steve King's comments above (which may be taken out of context, but I'm not sure what context would ever help his comments.) And I said "Remind me how many in our family ended up hanging from trees with 'honky' carved in their chests, and then let's try that comparison again."
More evidence that the Tea Party is not a fringe group... fringe groups don't have elected officials catering to them, particularly at a time like this... Fringe movement my ass. You Republicans trying to hide from this need to man up and take back your party from the crazies. These are the same people that left the Democratic Party over civil rights, but the big difference is that the Democratic Party had the courage and the sense to let them go... not court them, not take on their rhetoric, not make promises to them.
Lets just say I like to see both sides of an issue before taking a stand. As far as not taking a stand on things I think its more a matter of style. Just because I'm not calling people "asshats" doesn't mean I don't have an opinion.
Batman Jones is the TJ of the left There I said it. Why do we have to address every stupid act that happens in the world? Its not like a public official did this. These are private citizens that has the same freedom of speech as every other American. There are idiots in every party.
Tell me about the idiots on the left that call people ******s and faggots, rockbox. I can't wait to hear about them.
The tea party is basically the ugly side of the republican party. They are "real Americans" when they hover at the edge and scapegoats when they cross it.
A member of the GOP House delegation called a pro-life Democrat a "Baby-killer" in the midst of a House session. Members of the GOP House delegation cheered on a drunk protestor that got into the House of Representatives and was being taken out by Capitol Hill police. Yes, it was public officials doing this stuff.
I was dubious at first, but Rimrocker's post about the Republican Congressmen inciting the protesters validated this thread.
I thought they'd maintain the 4th wall for that cute plausible deniability instead of looking directly at them and giving high fives to the crowd.
It's a cult and there are way too many true believers in elected office. In other news, I'm off to bed. I will sleep well tonight.
The GOP certainly does. Many elected GOP officials have spoken at and participated in tea party gatherings. This cannot be denied. I'm not sure you can find any Democrats who have done this.
