Not quite. Him not supporting M4A or ending the filibuster just means the liberal wing doesn’t have all the votes.
Right; and as a moderate Democrat I oppose court packing. I really hope this senate can work together to achieve reasonable outcomes. Unfortunately the only way to do that appears to be both Georgia seats being filled by democrats with Harris casting the tie-breaker. If that doesn’t happen, we have to hope the republicans don’t pledge to be an obstructionist bloc. Hyper-partisan gridlock benefits no one
Just because Manchin doesn’t agree with some doing away with the filibuster or packing the court doesn’t mean that Republicans yet have the majority. The majority is only who votes for majority leadership. I doubt Manchin will vote for McConell to be majority leader. As McConnell shows being majority leader means much more than just individual votes on bills. It means what bills or hearings can happen.
That may be true; however we’ve had a republican majority for awhile now. Time for modest swings in the other direction. Unfortunate it has to come to this. One would hope both sides could break ranks and make compromises. Sadly the voters are forced to flip majorities every couple of elections for anything to happen
Right, it sucks that Manchin won't vote lockstep with the party but...before people get on him, let's remember he's keeping a senate seat blue in a deep red state. It is what it is, you accept it, you move on. The thing that matters here is who will be senate majority leader. I think Manchin will at the very least agree on a democrat majority leader.
Yep, wrote his in the other place it was posted: Manchin making a smart move not only for his seat but also for speaking the obvious as the Dem carnage in the House and Senate continues. It's signalling to focus on things they all agree on for the first two years. Given the amount of things to do, shouldn't be a big issue if Biden gets busy on the EOs on issues progressives care about.
