If you remember the Clinton years, this doesn't surprise you.

    Today...

Senator Burr (R) of NC objected and so there will be no hearing.

Judiciary Committee hearings are also canceled.

the clinton years are the only thing that keeps me from saying its about race. however clinton was the first black president.

in all seriousness, this is just the game they've played since clinton, maybe even since carter. whatever social insults, clinton was a hill billie from Arkansas, a draft dodger with no honor, from a immoral mother who couldn't keep it in his pants. unfortunately, clinton gave them amo on the marraige front.

Ted Kennedy came from a different era in politics. Ted Kennedy had a certain dignity about him.

By and large, the people constituting Congress today (of both parties) are no Ted Kennedy.

(FWIW, the Bentsen reference was intentional)

Democrats were extremely popular a year ago. They could easily have just passed an easy health care bill that made some minor changes, bragged about health care reform, and been in good shape going forward. Instead, they took on a huge challenge that people had been fighting for for decades, and many of their members made votes that might cost them their jobs. How exactly is that all in their self-interest?

Yeah you're right. There were aboslutely no protests during Bush's terms in office. Absolutely no Republican campaign offices or military recruiting offices were EVER defaced or vandalized. Bush was NEVER called a Nazi or compared to Hitler. Yup there are aboslutely no crazy Democrats anywhere. Not at all.

Oh and Refman, you need to define what you mean by "dignity". By "dignity", do you mean his notorious womanizing and drinking that's practically legendary in D.C.? Or do you mean him "leaving the scene of an accident" that led directly to the death of a female staffer? Or is "dignity" when you attempt to undermine the sitting president to a foreign power, like Kennedy did with Reagan?

Oh yeah, you're the guy who brought up Bush's coke use and drinking problem all the time. I remember you!

    Dude...seriously.

I disagreed with Ted Kennedy politically on a good many issues, but you cannot deny that he was a true statesman.

As for drinking and womanizing...show me a Congressman that does not do those things and I will show you somebody that is having his first day on the job. I think they give you a pantyless intern and a bottle of scotch in your welcome basket when you move into your office.

Holy non sequitor Batman! I'm refuting the apparent belief that Ted Kennedy was this paragon of dignity, and yet you still try to make this about Bush? Lord knows everyone's heard about Bush's shortcomings both real AND imagined, but come on man! Nice to see that Bush Derangement Syndrome is still alive and well though. It's like the new version of Godwinning a thread. Do you still check your closet every night to make sure he's not in there ready to jump out at you?

"Everyone does it"? That's the card you're going to play? I'd love to see the evidence that everyone does it. Slander is a hell of a drug.

    I know, isn't it?

It is possible for a person to be more than one thing. In fact most of us are.

A person can make a horrible judgment call, or more than one on the same night. A person can drink to excess and chase women.

The same person can also care a great deal for the nation and work incredibly hard, and with the spirit of a true statesman. A person can devote his life to making the nation better, developing relationships that make working together better, and foster a sense of respect, and still have the flaws mentioned above.

It is pointless to try besmirch the whole person or decry another person's admiration of the good that a man did, because you can't get past the flaws.
