Insofar as the political pissing is concerned, who cares? Oh, Republicans have a higher median intelligence, yay yay yay, because I'm a Republican!

Oh wait, Republicans and Democrats are all citizens of the same nation? Shocker. And oh wait, instead of analyzing the small distances before affiliated party members whey don't we measure the HUGE gap between the ideal amount of political knowledge and the sordid affairs of the ignorance that crosses all boundaries.

Only 25% of the nation knows what "cap and trade" deals with.
About 35% know what the DOW is looking like.
Only 45% of the nation have ever picked up a map and had the basic geographical knowledge to interpret the fact that Isreal is about three countries away from Iran.
Hell, only about 60% of people know that the public option is correlated with health care reform...WTF. If you don't even know that the public option is associated with health care, how can you even be relied on to make reasonable arguments about one of the biggest issues in your personal life?

So we can all be partisan and bicker about the 6% difference in Rs and Ds.

Or we can lament or hell, MAYBE even do something about the fact that nearly 40% of the country has NO f***** idea about one of the most important issues this nation has ever faced.

I think not knowing which party controls the House is pretty embarrassing. I guess if you have zero interest in what is going on politically in this country, you wouldn't know that, but jeez.

    Here's the quiz

Just. Wow. Why would you call yourself a "democrat" or "republican" if you your interest in politics is so superficial you don't ace this thing.

John Stewart and Rush Limbough should be ashamed. Their disciples are not paying attention!

That's pretty much what I'm trying to say. Let's go with your definition then.

Bottom line, the questions were extremely skewed to conservative interests.

I mean, sorry for double-posting, but I find it maddening that 66% of the population got 50% or less on this quiz. Granted, I saw the answers before-hand and probably would've gotten 10/12 (not too sure about Fed chairman and troop levels in Afghanistan)...but that still would've put me in the top 10% of the nation...in terms of what should be somewhat common sense knowledge with all the media attention/controversy/discussion...hell, I'm not even American, so I can't even begin to fathom how America can have a rational discussion about anything when more then half of the nation doesn't know anything about half of the issues.

I missed the troop level in Afghanistan. I knew I had seen the number recently with all the surge talk, but couldn't remember.

Did you read the actual quiz? The multiple choice options? Even on the economic stuff -- the stuff that's been ALL OVER the news and driving national and international policy for the last yr -- your Unemployment choices were - 5%, 10%, 15%, 20%. On the DOW -- 3K, 6K, 10K, 16K.

Only 15% of Dems (and 30% of Republicans and Independents) knew that Cap and Trade dealt with energy and the environment? Global Warming people? Remember Al's little slideshow? I wouldn't be shouting 'SCOREBOARD' if my team scored 30% here -- but justifying 15% because the question was partisan?

I come back to....why do you say you're Republican, or Democrat if you don't care about this stuff? What makes you a democrat (or republican) if you can hardly even identify any of these issues? Is it all talking points? On both sides. Can I really believe Democrats treat the environment better than Republicans do if I don't even know that 'cap and trade' is a means to address global warming?

It's like saying I'm a Houston Rockets fan -- but I've never heard of Yao, or Olajuwon? They're not being asked to recite Tracy Murray's stat's here -- just have a vague recognition of some pretty basic stuff. And 50% get 5 or less correct? Yikes.

Knowing stuff doesn't mean you know how to fix stuff.

But not knowing stuff definitely means you can't fix anything.

    This.

No party had even 60% knowing what the public option was

I'd rather have someone who knows stuff try to fix stuff than someone who doesn't.

I'm not too surprised by the poll. There are more Democrats out there who don't "know stuff".

Democrats outnumber Republicans by around 15 million (?). A lot of this 15 million gap is probably made up of young people and other demographics who don't really follow the news. The numbers of "knowledgable" people on both sides are probably somewhat equal.

Yeah, both parties were embarrassingly low, so I don’t know why they even bothered to divide it up this way. According to this poll, nobody has any reason to be proud.

Agreed. I don’t get this either. Why are you so adamant about which party you belong to when you are, at the same time, so CLUELESS on the actual issues involved?

Just goes to show you how our culture has this “pick a side and DIG IN” philosophy. You have to fight for what you believe in!!!!….even if you have no idea what you actually believe in.

I guess this is what happens when you have people getting their political ideals by reading Facebook or watching The View…..

I still maintain that this all started with the 2000 election.

Personally, I think that a bunch of people SAID they were Dems and chose the wrong answers deliberately. FWIW, I thing a bunch of people said they were Reps and did the same thing.

I just can't believe that such a large percentage of Americans (of both parties and independents) are so stupid.

Can someone please do a poll that shows the percentage of people that believe the following statements?

Was Obama born in the United States?
    Is Obama the anti-christ?
    Is Obama a socialist?
    Is Obama a racist?
Does Obama have plans to enslave white culture in America?
Does Obama believe in the constitution?
    Does Obama believe in America?

Bet conservatives would win that poll too.

    How is this even similar?

Those are technically subjective questions. He could still be plotting a way to enslave white America, it may just be a secret
