Well I wasn't referring to the REpublicans and conservatives claiming Saddam was a great guy. They claimed the left believed he was a great guy. The Hillary video only shows that she didn't think Saddam was a great guy. It doesn't deny what I was talking about because I was referring to the left on this board which has been largely anti-Iraq war from the beginning. While I didn't mention Republicans thinking he was a great guy, I could post articles showing Republican support for Saddam's regime if you want. There is the famous handshake with Saddam and Rumsfeld back when they were buddies and REpublicans were supporting him.
Do you think that Rumsfeld was the only American to shake hands with Saddam during his reign? There was a time when Saddam had virtually no opposition in the US, no? Don't now try to hang that albatross around the Republican's starched white collars. When did the Republicans claim that the Dems thought Saddam was a "great guy?" I don't need an isolated incident; I'm talking about a pattern...
No he didn't have unanimous support in the U.S. There were those who proposed cutting aid at the time. You do your own research. Go back and read posts back then of folks like basso, and others accusing the anti-war crowd of being pro-Saddam. If you deny it then you are either lying or senile. Go back and google Republican rhetoric at the time. Hell, even Rumsfeld, and Cheney who were top members of the administration at the time said as much.
You keep going back and forth. I thought we were talking about politicians not BBS posters. That photo with Rumsfeld and Saddam pre-exists Clutch Fans... I'm talking about politicians not posters which is what you were talking about until I started to poke holes in your argument. Are you talking about the Reagan/Bush41 era or the Bush43 era with regards to our appraisal of Saddam? The Rumsfeld photo was from the former not the latter.
You didn't poke holes in my story. In my post I mentioned both. Both politicians and bbs posters accused the anti-war crowd of loving or supporting Saddam.
Who's is that guy ...Maddow, i think his name was, ? Did he get a show recently because i've never seen it.
relax maam....didnt mean to get your panties in a bunch. and yes, i took the easy joke. I was in a hurry. I'm sorry to make the D&D such a wasteland. Surely all of you well adjusted and open minded people took offense to my little harmless joke to a chick with a dude's haircut that no one watches.
The discussion was about politicians and you made one parenthetical remark about BBS posters. Then you refer to a Rumsfelt-Saddam photo taken circa 1990-92 and then leap to post-war 2003 and want to make the later remarks indicate a hypocrisy given the 1990 photo. A lot transpired between 1990 and 2003 and you have blurred those distinctions. So I daresay I did "poke holes" in your argument. That's different from total de-construction.
This happened first You have a selective memory. You said that when Bush was in office his supporters put forward well reasoned argument and were hysterically shouted down by crazy rantings of Bush's opponents. This happened second I said that wasn't true, and mentioned how both politicians including top members of the Bush administration claimed anyone who argued with them about the war were supporting Al-Qaeda, and/or Saddam. I mentioned that the same was true here on the board. This happened third You mentioned that no Republicans thought Saddam was a great guy, and that I would have to show you multiple examples of war supporters calling anti-war folks those names. After this point you started shifting the argument multiple times.
1. I can't find a single post of mine that has the name "Bush" in it. 2. I made a reference to the era of 1990-2003 which was framed by your side with the ~1990 Rumsfeld photo with Saddam and Gulf War II in 2003. I pointed out that lots happened in-between (such as the 1993 WTC basement bombing, the bombings at the embassies in Africa and the USS Cole being prominent) that changed lots of opinions about tolerance for Muslim terror whatever the target. That's why I posted the video of Hillary. 3. I simply didn't write vitually all of the things you are crediting me with...
Giddy you didn't say "Bush" You said several years ago. I don't have time to argue silly semantics when it doesn't change the meaning of anything you've typed.
That's an interesting way to play this game.... it's not "silly semantics" when you are crediting me with saying things I never said. You can't just make up "conversations" that suit your purpose or make your point. Your agenda is showing!
I'm sorry giddy. When you said a few years ago, and your point was to swap parties based on the original observation, then you might as well have said Bush supporters. The meaning is the same. I'm talking about your meaning. Who was president a few years ago?
