I find it funny that perry isn't supporting huckabee given the conversation that just went on about Republicans wanting to bring out that base but don't want them as actual candidates. Perry seems to be a classic example

I think Perry saw Rudy as his ticket out of Texas to a cabinet position, perhaps as V.P. running mate. You better believe Perry wouldn't be supporting Rudy if he planned on running for re-election.

    Ouch!

Seems the Mittster can't catch a break in his home state. --

    -----

Second of Boston's newspapers endorse McCain, not Romney

BOSTON (AP) - John McCain has been endorsed by both of Mitt Romney's hometown newspapers, a blow to the former Massachusetts governor who often taunts his opponents with negative e-mails titled, ‘‘Those who know him best.''

The Boston Herald, the state's conservative tabloid, endorsed Arizona Sen. McCain for president in an editorial posted online Thursday.

‘‘There are times in this nation's history so perilous that they cry out for a steady, experienced leader, a person so trusted that we would put the fate of this country in his hands. This is one of those times, and Sen. John McCain is that person,'' the newspaper said.

It did not mention Romney, who led Massachusetts from 2003 to January of this year.

The newspaper also did not endorse anyone in the Democratic presidential race, breaking its tradition of choosing candidates in both parties.

Both the Herald and The Boston Globe, which announced its backing of McCain earlier this week, circulate in vote-rich southern New Hampshire, which holds the nation's first presidential primary on Jan. 8. Romney maintains a sizable lead there, but McCain is hoping to repeat his primary victory in 2000.

I am dumbfounded at Guiliani's continued popularity. The guy is just plain awful. Absolutely no ethical standards, no integrity, and zero exposure to serious foreign policy. (Well, I guess that's about the same as Bush, but that is not my point).

    The same goes for Hillary.

If Rudy and Hillary end up the choices I refuse to vote.

That's kind of expected here in liberal homebase, McCain is not a true republican on many issues.

Enlighten us on how McCain is not a "true republican on many issues." I wait with great anticipation to see if you can do this without sounding like an idiot.

How about not vote for tax cuts, and do vote for citizenship for illegal aliens. Which for me are two of the biggest issues.

McCain is a tax-cutter but he isn't off the deep end like George Bush (to the tune of $350 billion). One the 2nd issue I see your point.

You should understand that there are many Republicans who define themselves a lot different from you. Some of them are more concerned about abortion, gay marriage, staying the course in Iraq, free trade, pro-death penalty, privatizing (to some extent) Social Security. I could go on and on. McCain is lockstep on all these issues. I bet there are some views you have that might have other GOPers question whether you are a "true Republican".

Just because he says he will cut tax, doesn't mean he is a "tax-cutter". I'd say Bush's tax cuts worked out ok.

Of course there are many different issues, you can only vote for what you think is important. For me there are better republican candidates on those two issues.

Well I figured there were those that privately thought as much about Muslims, but it's quite another to outright voice the opinion (especially on tape).

That is the exact kind of thing we need less of in this country. Hopefully Rudy's campaign is what it looks like, and there won't be a way for him to rise from the ashes.

Either way, I love the way that Obama matches up against any Republican in the polls so far.

I like the way Obama has responded to all of Hillary's underhanded tricks as well.

Just thought I'd say that, right now, I can barely look at a video of Romney smiling, shaking hands and speaking on the trail without gagging. At the moment, he's #1 on the list of candidates I despise to the core, pushing past Hillary and Rudy. How any independent, or even Republican, can rationalize voting for someone with so little integrity is beyond me. I can tell you right now that if he is the nominee and runs against Edwards or Obama, I will vote for the Democrat next November. What a sorry, flip-flopping, two-faced distorting liar of a candidate. He combines the worst of George Bush and Al Gore.

I clearly understand McCain's long-held contempt for Romney. I used to think he was just mad at being displaced as the front-runner, but it's a personal.

Maybe because he has the track record to show that he will actually do a good job as the president?

To hate him as much as GW and Al? You must have lost your mind.

Despite having the "best operation in Iowa money can buy", despite Huckabee, McCain, Thompson and Ron Paul running their Iowa campaigns on shoestrings, despite Huckabee repeatedly impaling himself the last several days, 75% of Iowa GOP voters rejected Romney. They must be out of their minds.

As one commentator said: "The more voters saw of Romney the less they liked him", which is what happened with me. If Romney doesn't cook up some new broth for New Hampshire, his candidacy is dead.

Say what you want. I wouldn't "hate" Obama if he won the election. Any Dem should think likewise about Huckabee, as well.

And why are we seeing so many Democrat lovers in this thread? I don't patronize the Dem thread. Why do you feel the need to patronize this one?
