The Cold War wasn't an actual war, per say.

True, but you know why he used that word. Even using it in the correct context, that word still acts as a subtle reminder of his experience as a POW. In fact they used the metaphorical scars as a jumping off point to talk about his physical scars. Very crafty speech writing.

He did say he would increase the tax credit for families with children from $3500 per child per year to $7000.

He did say he would install programs at community colleges to retrain people that have lost their jobs, and help them get into new jobs... and not wish for old jobs to come back, but create new markets.

He did take an "all of the above" approach to the energy crisis, by promoting not only drilling (which is where leftists stop listening), but including nuclear, clean coal, solar, wind, natural gas, and electric automobiles.

He did say that he wanted to help bad teachers find new careers, and help good teachers by increasing salaries...

He did say he would make schools answer to the parents and teachers and not just the status quo norm of teacher's unions and lobbyists.

He did promise to kill unnecessary spending in unneeded government programs.

He did promise tax cuts to all businesses across the board in order to promote growth in the economy.

He said Obama's name only 6 times... Obama mentioned him 21 times.

    Obama wears John McCain pajamas.

I'll give you all those points, on perception and presumption alone.

I could see where that could be the only thing people took from it.

    I didn't until I read it here.

But I'm not offended or annoyed that the man speaks out of the only experiences he knows... his own.

Obama does the same... it's just less of a story IMO.

This is the only thing I count as actual policy discussion.

The rest was just too vague and broad.

I figured after he spent all that time criticizing Obama about his lack of substance, McCain would bring some meat. In those terms, we were treated to a vegetarian buffet tonight.

Actually he called people into politics, community service, military, even the ministry. He challenged Americans to do something themselves at a grass roots level and not just count on DC to fix it all.

I found it very fitting in an age where many Americans sit around and bitterly won't do squat to make things change all while blaming the POTUS or the Congress, or the economy.

We need more people to take the challenge of accepting responsibility...

And again, did you here the crowd in the hall stone quiet when he was calling them out for losing the trust of America? He called out the GOP for selling out and enlarging government.

He is NOT Bush's third term. He is a different individual entirely.

    He has real guts.

6 to 21... 21 times Obama slammed McCain = time wasted doing the same vague thing. But I thought they both touched on minimal details.

Besides, the debates will bring the most detail to light... as I recall in the past, they are usually centered around major themes. ONe debate is usually a domestic policy debate, one a foreign policy debate, and the finale is usually a mixture and miscellaneous...

It will be clear before November.

My point it this... I heard less attack from McCain directed at Obama, and more from Obama attacking McCain in their own speeches.

I found neither to be very detailed about policy.. but McCain slightly more. He actually mentioned several things... I know there were more than I posted.

This speech was the beginning of McCain's run towards the center.

I am not buying it. Especially after the past couple months.

Considering McCain had attacked Obama more leading up to the DNC than vice versa, call it evening the deck.

And no, Obama mentioned more policy and issue oriented topics (although just as vague as McCain)

BTW- They said the song "Barracuda" was a tribute to Palin's high-school and collegiate sports days. It was her nickname.

I like the song any way. Heart, old Heart "pre-mid '80's" rocked!

It's interesting that they chose that song. I'm thinking they probably didn't pay real close attention and figure out what the song was about.

    [rquoter]
Ann Wilson revealed in interviews that the song was about Heart's anger towards Mushroom Records attempted publicity stunt involving sisters Ann and Nancy and a made up lesbian affair. The song particularly focuses on Ann's rage towards a fan who came up to her after a concert asking how her "lover" was. She initially thought he was talking about her then boyfriend, band member Michael Fisher. After he revealed he was talking about her sister Nancy Wilson, Ann became angry and went back to her hotel room to write the song.

I hung out with this guy last night. He's a bit of a libertarian utopian idealist. He's really cool.

I read that too... but it was her nickname. "Barracuda" -Don't think it'll matter about the meaning...

I'll bet it's a most downloaded song in the next few days...

It's better the "Raisin' McCain."

The song's composers weren't very happy about the choice:

Ann and Nancy Wilson of Heart said Thursday night that Universal Music Publishing and Sony BMG have sent a cease and desist notice to the McCain-Palin campaign over their use of 'Barracuda.'

"We have asked the Republican campaign publicly not to use our music. We hope our wishes will be honored," the group said in a statement that said they "condemn" the use of the song at the Republican convention.
