no worries. i don't have much of a reputation or presence here, so my light-hearted threadcrap might seem a little more vile than i intended.

carry on with the rnc discussion. i'm intrigued to see how they respond to what is seeming to be a very A-game, sharpened-up dnc.

Very cool weslinder, you've always seemed like a level headed guy that can have intelligent debate, unlike the twins. I look forward to your updates from the RNC. Has there been any talk up there about them delaying the convention for a few days because of the hurricane? I heard on the local news here in Houston that the idea has been thrown around.

GWB would do well to give some sort of "I am not John McCain. John McCain is not I" speech without making himself look bad in the process. [Que the jokes, I know]

All i'm saying is the best argument the Democrats have against McCain is trying to paint him as the second coming of GWB. That "4 more years of the last 8 years" message is powerful stuff. McCain needs to shed that label otherwise this election is in the bag.

Play Poker Online? You might not be too happy with the RNC platform...

Got this from the PPA today...

Republican presidential nominee John McCain needs to hear from you TODAY. This week, the Republican Platform Committee included language in the party platform (a document outlining the priorities of the GOP) that supports efforts to outlaw online poker and other forms of online gaming. This is especially troubling given that hundreds of PPA members and poker enthusiasts contacted the Platform Committee and stated their preference that the GOP not include anti-online gaming language in this year’s platform like they did in 2000 and 2004. Sadly, the GOP ignored these calls and decided to abdicate core conservative principles in favor of a "nanny-state" approach to governance.

Please let McCain know you are not pleased with his party’s decision by sending him a letter TODAY telling him to repudiate this plank of the GOP platform. Simply click the button below to send a letter directly to McCain’s presidential campaign. You can send PPA's prewritten letter in less than 60 seconds! Or, you can use the site to send your own letter. It's that easy!

    Send Email to John McCain

Thank you for making your voice heard. With the election just weeks away it is more important than ever that the candidates know POKER PLAYERS VOTE!

    GOP Considers Delaying Convention

Tropical Storm Gustav Is Forecast to Hit U.S. Next Week as Hurricane

Republican officials said yesterday that they are considering delaying the start of the GOP convention in Minneapolis-St. Paul because of Tropical Storm Gustav, which is on track to hit the Gulf Coast, and possibly New Orleans, as a full-force hurricane early next week.

The threat is serious enough that White House officials are also debating whether President Bush should cancel his scheduled convention appearance on Monday, the first day of the convention, according to administration officials and others familiar with the discussion.

I think they will have to delay it because they don't want to compete with the news coverage (and emotional focus of the American people) and it will seem callous for republicans like Bush and McCain to be in MN while americans are suffering.

    They've learned from Katrina.

Anyway, What's the RNC going to be about. What does McCain have to do except attack Obama and give his rebuttal. I think McCain's speech will be worth watching, as will Bush's....but who else?

They are going to struggle with engaging people.

Well, Obama spent half his speech attacking McCain(and not always accurately), so I think he's entitled to a rebuttal.

As for what other speeches, assuming the convention is delayed, that'll allow Jindal to speak. He's a rising star in the party. There's the VP selection. That'll be an important speech, especially if it's a relative unknown like Pawlenty. Lieberman's speech will be interesting since he's been ostracized by his own party because he sided with Bush on a single issue(which he was right about since the surge worked).

That's three right there. Three important speeches by people who've never appeared onstage at the GOP convention. If that doesn't engage you, then you're probably not gonna vote for McCain to begin with anyway.

Local news here in the Twin Cities is talking about delaying the convention according to Ron Carrey, chair of the MN Republican party, this will be a "game time decision." There is a lot of concern here regarding delaying as so much planning has gone into the convention and they aren't sure how the infrastructure set up for it could handle a delay.

That'll work out great because that'll enable McCain to go tour the damage thus making him even look more presidential. Perfect timing.

I'm not up there yet. Prediction: If the hurricane hits NOLA, it'll be postponed. If not, it'll go on as planned.
