it's important for Democrats to go to Selma to address the party's ugly, racist past

Hey at least they acknowledge it instead of denying it ever existed.

That's probably why blacks are firmly in the democratic party.

You should listen to talk radio in the USA. Not even close by a longshot.

20-25 years ago, your statement would make sense.

And for the GOP to avoid it to preserve their ugly, bigoted present and future.

Meh... I'm not surprised. Plus they cried and moaned when Obama didn't go to France so maybe this is their way of payback. But this shouldn't upset minorities and they shouldn't be surprised by their actions.

They addressed it in 1964, at which point the racists became Republicans.

It is such a shame that the Republicans on the Supreme Court are trying to go backward on Voting Rights 50 years after Selma.

Such a shame that many ordinary Republicans who are not racist support their decision just for sake of partisanship.

You mean the former Democrats who became Republicans after JFK disenfranchised them?

You do realize that all the racists ran from the democrats and to the republicans in the 60's because of the civil rights movement. Today you call them the Tea Party. Actually today you just call them Republicans.

Wouldn't help the GOP. They don't have many in-roads in the African-American voting bloc
