Orban is the least corrupt leader Hungary has had since the Empire, and by some margin

It's not that he's some stellar beacon of anti corruption, it's just that what came before him were stealing anything not nailed down, and before that the communists who didnt let nails get in the way either.

And it's those "steal anything not nailed down" that they still keep running against him, and then somehow they wonder why Hungarians keep giving him supermajorities.

People just wonder why someone who gave a speech against race mixing and discriminating against homosexuals would be invited to speak at CPAC.

Orban is a corrupt racist. People in his own cabinet resigned after the speech and called it "a pure Nazi speech".

Why is this person a hero for "conservatives"?

He's corrupt, authoritarian, bigoted, and racist. Are you telling me those are characteristics that American conservatives aspire to?

But it's ok for the right to link Jews to the Nazis - they do it all the time - oh that George Soros! He's a socialist, and as you know socialists are Nazis!

 

You don't have to be corrupt to be a White Supremacist. You can be full of hate and bigotry, and want to enforce the laws based on hate, as a dictator type. That appeals to the GOP party. They have similar interests and beliefs.

To stay in power is where the corruption comes in, and the GOP has already shown what lengths they will go to support and defend a leader who will throw Democracy straight out the window. Hungary's leader is the same type. Make no mistake about that.

 

The irony to all of this is that Western Europe long considered Eastern Euros (Poland, Romania, Hungary, Slavs) to be of lower stock.

Now they're among the most xenophobic countries. I guess the more progressive or open-minded among them flocked to the West through Schengen,

Orban's use of the word race was entirely wrong, but he isn't Hitler. He tried to correct his statement, to clarify he meant it in a cultural way, not a racist one.

Although I obviously reject racism, I can see what he means when I look at the ghettos in the banlieues of Paris, and ghettos in Duisburg, Berlin, etc.

The integration of certain cultural groups has completely failed. I can see why he would want to protect Hungary from that.

You can buy that the use of "cultural" mixing is not a euphemism for race and he isn't just backing off because of the public outcry, but I think everyone knows he is in fact a racist based not just on these comments but the totality of what he's been saying as a politician.

Exactly. This is thin rhetorical cover. It makes no sense to claim you didn’t actuall mean your against race mixing but race mixing of cultures.

 

If by “race” he meant “cultural group”, and if Jews constitute a different cultural group (which is in fact more accurate than saying they are a different race), then it means that he is against mixing of Jews and non-Jews.
