Pancakes reported that his last game to attend was the overtime loss vs. the Texans here in Houston. Just sayin'...
Pancakes giving Bud one last sack-lapping via Twitter. Always Bud's faithful mouthpiece, right up until the end and beyond.
The City of Houston renovated the Astrodome for around 70M in 1988. Do you know how much money that is when you account for inflation? I can calculate that for you if you would like. Bud Adams ruined my NFL life when I was kid. With this being said, RIP.

I believe any owner would have left the city if they had to use the astrodome (made for baseball) as the main football stadium. you can take Laniers side if you want, luckily the Texans are finally a good team. look at Cleveland.
They would have been laughed at had they made a demand for a new stadium just 6 years after demanding a renovation "or else we will leave!" The whole purpose of the renovation (that the city is STILL paying for) was to make it more "football friendly". But even then, you'd have to reach a level of Bud's SOB'ness to really have an entire city that he'd live in his whole life refuse to support him. He didn't have ONE person on his side... not one official/businessman/influencial citizen that was willing to take his side of things, or rally support on his behalf. Had there been a referendum for a new stadium, with Bud as the owner, it would have failed miserably.
Then why the hell did he have us pour in $70 million of public funds to renovate the Dome (tearing out the scoreboard) if that was the case? He sold at 110% capacity for 8 years leading into his demand for a new stadium. When push came to shove, this is a man who, despite having a lifetime of business contacts here, didn't have one friend step up for him to try to help him save the team here. When McLane, a relative outsider, asked for a new baseball park, downtown business leaders went out of their way to lend support. They ended up buying the land for the project and donating it. But Adams had no one who came to his aid. That's what happens when you spend a lifetime acting that way. He did the most damage to his own proposed downtown stadium when he insisted he had partnered with the Rockets..and that the Rockets were ready to play in the BudDome too.....only to find out the Rockets had zero interest in playing inside a dome stadium, and had never told Bud they were remotely interested in that. That's not taking Lanier's side...that's just stating the facts of what went down.
i've seen you're schtick and you're parents are probably assholes and raised you just the same. need i remind you that this is the same forum when a innocent kid dies in an accident the forum tries to be witty and create memes. or some natural disaster happens where hundreds/thousands die and everyone wants to evacuate jokes. give me a ****ing break. a 90 year old ass hole died, big facking whoop....
Sure... now. But not in 1988... and certainly not after he got the city to put in $70 million dollars worth of work into it. Again... the city of Houston was always willing to build new stadiums... they just weren't willing to do it for Bud Adams.
Watt is going to give the fans the middle finger salute, after a sack, in honor of Bud Adams, thus completing the season.
Yeah but Bud always had the option of building his own stadium when he left Jeppesen Stadium for Rice Stadium and then the Astrodome. At that time, the dome was conceived to be a multipurpose facility that could accommodate both football and baseball which was what in vogue back in those days. The stands were built on tracks in order to move into position to create the sidelines for football. Plus, it was in a domed stadium which protected everyone from the Houston weather. Bud became disenchanted with the dome when the economics of the NFL changed and NFL owners began to generate revenue from their facilities with suites, PSLs, etc. - revenue that did not have to be shared with the other teams. Bud's deal with the HSA did not allow him to tap into these new revenue streams and by the time he decided to force (some would say coerce) the city into building him a new facility just for football, his years of mismanaging the Oilers had turned most of the city against him. When he threatened to move the Oilers unless he got his way, he made it personal with the Houston fans who had been there with the team through thick and thin. He betrayed their trust and rewarded their decades of loyalty with treachery and deceit. Hence, the general lack of sympathy at the news of his passing for which I can TOTALLY understand.
