Maybe Yao doesn't want him back. Getting Francis = fewer touches for Yao.

I'm not sure which is funnier, Kaman being called "decent" or Maggette being called "unguardable". The only thing that's decent about Kaman is his haircut. Considering what it looked like before, that's not saying much. As for Magette, the number of unguardable players in the league can be counted on one hand, and Maggette sure as heck isn't one of them.

The Clippers had one brief season of above-averageness, and are now slowly returning to the dregs of the league, where they rightfully belong...

If the Clippers could now get Lamar Odom back,

If Rafer is allowed to play freely I think his playmaking ability will show a little more this year. Last year, Van Gundy had him run the ball up the court and then run a set play where McGrady comes off a pick and Alston throws an underrated pass right in the bread basket where Tmac rises all in one motion. Pretty effective play and we will probably still run it. Alston is the most capable at running these plays and no it is not as easy as it looks. Anyways, my point is that we should set some pick and rolls for Alston to give him some space to get by his man every once in a while and create. Alston should not strictly be used as a setup man because he is too gifted with the ball to just run a play. I know he is not the best playmaker in the NBA but he is much better than people here give him credit for. Unfortunately, JVG would not let him just play basketball and set guys up on his own which Alston CAN do if he has the scorers around him.

Look, it's understandable why Steve would want to be with the Clippers; if your significant other was working at another city wouldn't you want to move to that same city too?

    Steve and Cuttino. Gay pride.

All they would do is sag off of Rafer and make him take the jumper. Case closed, Rockets lose.

Oh wait, that's what teams already do.

I thought SF3 agent said that SF3 was going to first talk the coaches of the teams he wants to play with before deciding.

Yeah thats it, although Steve happens to be one of his best friends and Yao is so desperate for more shots.

Steve would be content with getting Rafers attempts from last year and would actually make the defense pay for leaving him....

It's a lose. If SF could come, RA would be traded with someone for even a draft pick.

Does anyone have any updates on this? From what I understand there is no official deal with the Clips. I've checked multiple sources for anything new and this is all I found:

    http://www.clipsnation.com/story/2007/7/12/201910/879

I'm going to stop speculating on the contract that Steve Francis is going to sign. It's all conjecture on my part, and clearly I have no idea. I assumed he'd be able and interested in getting the mid-level (the same figure Art Thompson III speculated on in today's OCR), but then his agent spoke of being 'made whole' after the Portland buyout, a figure that would be much lower. So who knows?

Instead let's just do a quick link dump.

The Lakers are going to sign Derek Fisher. Like Francis, the deal can't be official until Fish clears waivers, but it's going to happen, and it removes the Lakers from the pursuit of Francis.

Today's Palm Beach Post says the Heat are NOT interested in Francis, although they continue to be one of the teams mentioned. Take it for what it's worth. The Heat continue to pursue Mo Williams as their top priority.

Today's Houston Chronicle is reporting that that Francis is interested in the Rockets. What it doesn't report is that the Rockets are interested in Francis. All the talk at this point is coming from Francis' agent, Jeff Fried. Beyond the obvious connections (Francis was an all-star with the Rockets, Yao reportedly likes playing with him, Francis has a house there) this idea makes no sense. The Rockets still have last year's starter Rafer Alston, and recently acquired Mike James for a second tour in Houston, and spent their first round draft pick on point guard Aaron Brooks. As it happens, the Rockets traded James for Alston two years ago, and then brought back James. So to bring back Francis to play alongside the guy the got for him (McGrady) would fit the theme. But exactly how many shoot first point guards is too many? Houston can't even consider this unless they get rid of Alston or James or both.
