Saw the preview to Devil. Thought it looked like an exciting movie. Then I saw that the director was no other than the devil himself (oh the humor) and I instantly lost all expectations.
He makes one movie that makes a ton of money and high critical praise and that pretty much green lights him making a bunch of movies that spirals downward in quality. I think he should just make Bollywood movies for the rest of his career.
M. Night actually does have some skill: he can create real tension with some of his work, obviously a lot of Sixth Sense, but I think of those scenes in Unbreakable with Willis sitting in the hospital, watching the chaos around him as the doc is talking off camera about what he has just survived, or when he goes to the house near the end. And there are some well shot moments in even Signs and The Village (I remember in the theater during The Village that scene where the main girl finally confronts the 'creature' in the woods - lots of people in there jumped when the 'thing' just rushes at her). But man, everything else is off the rails. And he unfortunately painted himself into a corner with the whole 'twist' thing and seemed to just lean on it as a crutch. You get the feeling that he can't reel himself in these days. It's a shame.
For me Shyamalan is like the Creed of films. I liked both the movie Sixth Sense and the song One. After that, anything else is like feces to the senses.
THe guy is a freaking douche. Just because your movies making money doesn't mean they're good. The reason people are flocking to his movies because of The Sixth Sense. He really knows how to sucker people in with his choice of interesting movie themes but sadly he can't deliver worth ****. He got really lucky with The Sixth Sense by the look of all his movies.
I'm with you on this, which is why I have not, and will not, see The Last Airbender. I'm a huge A:TLA fan and don't want to see such a wonderful series so grossly mis-represented. Besides, with the new series "Avatar: The Legend of Korra" starting next year, we'll have plenty of new material from the original creators, who actually know what the hell they're doing, that will hopefully erase the MNS atrocity from everyone's minds.
Also, from an interview with the "Avatar" creators about "The Legend of Korra": LOL. If you don't have anything good to say....
I'm excited to see Avatar coming back, but I'll miss the characters from the Last Air Bender. I still want to know what happens if Katara and Aang have a child. Could their child possibly bend 2 elements? They never really had any mixing of the Nations.
My daughters and I watch this show every now and then. I like that flying dog/wolf/sheep thing... and now I got to go PP. Thanks, sir.
I'm sure this will at least be referenced in the new series as it is supposed to occur after Aang's time as Avatar.
I've never heard an audience scream as much and as loud as I have during The Village. Movies that I have seen: - The Sixth Sense - Unbreakable - Signs - The Village All of them were enjoyable to me.
Glad to hear the new Avatar series has a semi-solid release. What I hated before was all the inconsistent airing of episodes. 3 month breaks, 1 episode a month, 8 month break mid season, then like the last 7 episodes in one week.
