Report: Rockets owner Tilman Fertitta has griped about Chris Paul’s contract in front of rival execu

As if this off-season didn't need any more drama...

    https://sports.yahoo.com/report-rockets-owner-tilman-fertitta-163434688.html

In 2017, Chris Paul opted in to facilitate a trade to the capped-out Rockets. By forgoing free agency and a max salary, Paul sacrificed $10,083,055 that season. With Paul and James Harden, the Rockets became a championship contender and pushed the Warriors in the 2018 Western Conference finals.

The bill came due last summer.

Houston re-signed the aging Paul to a four-year max contract worth $159,730,592. That deal always looked like it could age poorly, and Paul – now 34 – is already slowing.

Rockets owner Tilman Fertitta has noticed.

Fertitta has grumbled about Paul’s contract, expressing regret to Rockets staffers and even in front of rival executives, according to league sources.

Fertitta bought the Rockets after they traded for Paul. Though the sale was completed before they re-signed Paul, it seems the contract terms were at least discussed as far back as the opt-in-and-trade.

So, Fertitta didn’t necessarily sign off on this arrangement.

Yes, there’s downside to Paul’s deal. Houston is feeling it now. Paul will be difficult, though not impossible, to trade this summer.

All these chaos are not comforting. But hopefully we can find some opportunities to improve within the discomfort and pressure.

These negative news stories breed like bunnies. We won't even be able to trade CP3 to the dumbest, glue-sniffingest GM out there. Where's Isaiah Thomas would you need him?

Fertitta made his money in the restaurant business. You can't make it like he has by not squeezing every drop out of every penny his restaurants spent. I think Morey sees thing similarly.

On court versus off court value has to be commensurate with each other with every player. This is why losing someone like Ariza made sense for both of them.

Fertitta must look at Chris Paul's contract like a busted zero degree freezer he can't turn off and Morey looks at it like an inefficiency that must be eliminated.

I'm going to wait and see, but this Fertitta dude is looking like a problem so far.

Tilmon Fertitta seems like Trump.... just no clue when to shut up.

    Both classic Dunning-Kruger effects.

Paul then signed a four-year, $160 million deal that owner Tillman Fertitta has complained about ever since, sources said.

You know … so many sauces expressing the same sentiments - CP3 wants out …. Are they all liars ?

Or does he really want out and is just not wanting to air dirty laundry ?

Honestly this kinda feels like someone possibly laying some dirty work similar to the Anthony Davis situation last season. Notice how all the reports are saying he would prefer a trade to LA.
This whole situation smells like rottenness.

Les only signed CP3 to raise the value of the Rockets so he can sell it and take his money and our trophies on a yacht in Florida

He probably got happy endings at the same place bob craft did too
