Foundational pieces aren't traded unless they are unhappy. I don't see how they would be any happier in Houston with the current state of the rockets. A Harden type trade isn't going to ever happen again because no team will ever draft 3 future MVP's in successive drafts and have to pick between them because they are in a small market. We were also lucky in the fact that the Wizards weren't going to give up Beal for Harden. You know they are kicking themselves. That's almost as bad as not trading Sampson for Jordan.

Top 3 pick + Wood/Collins/KPJ might not win a championship but would be really fun.

    I don't believe this

Why? because right now there is no foundational piece out there

There is a lot of guys in their late 20s and early 30s, but a young foundational piece? Nah

When the Rockets traded for Harden, they were a good team already also just signing Omar Asik and Jeremy Lin along with a rookie Chandler Parsons. What I’m saying is they were not bottom of the conference. This team however, is just dreadful along with the injury prone players on the roster.

I don’t what player they are looking for that can turn it around quick like Harden did.

Right... but that is the concern because while you and I may view foundational pieces to be franchise players, that doesn’t mean the Rockets under Tilman do. That is why I made the comment about “45 wins”.

He seems content with mediocrity. Woe is us!

Right, and that is possibly what they are thinking. Although, depending on the asset cost and who they get in the draft; they may be in a position to compete for a title in 3-4 years.

What we want to avoid is being the Wizards who built around Beal and Wall and Portland that built around Lillard. We want to be able to go deep in the playoffs.

We will see. At least right now he is letting them lose and not forcing them to win meaningless games. Ideally he would let them do the same next year to get a top player in a loaded draft... and then start the process to win games.... let’s wait and see.

Team is willing to trade some future assets for a player it considers foundational to the franchise. How unique.

This news is brought to you by the people who said they're willing to pay the LT, but gosh darn it no one was worth it even though we were 1 and then 2 games away from the Finals.

It’s insane Harden got that team to the playoffs. Not only from the lack of talent on the roster, but also the inept coaching of McHale.

But yeah, there is no player that can turn it around like Harden did. That’s why guys like Beal and Lavine aren’t foundational pieces to me. When I see them put up these monster numbers without impacting winning at a high level, it changes my perspective on them. Empty calorie stats. Even Westbrook was able to carry that OKC team by himself to a 6 seed in the West and won an MVP. Beal has to be the least impressive leading scorer I’ve ever seen.

    Mannn....whatever to this notion.

They gonna have a top 5 pick and a lot of potential for quality roll players with all other picks.

Just grow your squad like Denver did and cut that microwave team building sh!t.

There are not "foundational pieces" to be traded for.

Just build your team and cut the false hope narratives, Rockets.

What do you mean, there are no "foundational" pieces to be traded for? We traded for Wood. We traded for KPJ. Hell, we traded for Harden.

So the Landry's model. Just be good enough where people that don't know any better come back. 6-8 seed about 50 percent of the seasons. Glad I'm a brooklyn fan now.

I think Stone is a pretty smart guy, but TF/ PF are tying him up. The one big mistake that Stone has done is picking up Oladipo.
TF's 2 yr 40 M plus offer to him was just terrible. I'm glad he turned it down. I hope Stone won't repeat the same mistake. Oladipo's expiring contract won't hurt us. Your comments on this, will be greatly appreciated.

Again, whatever player we go after needs to be 20 - 23 yrs old. If their intent is to circumvent a true rebuild, and patch together a "playoff team".....that never contends, then it'll be time to for me to adjust my priorities.

Well, I feel like you're making the assumption that the only reason a player can be unhappy comes down to wins. How did James Harden get traded to us? How did Christian Wood get traded to us? They were unhappy because of money and/or role on the team. So it is possible that a player the Rockets view as a possible foundational piece is not getting the role/money they want elsewhere ala Harden or Wood. And that's obviously the kind of guy they need to be on the look out for.

Hell, they may very well view both Wood and Kevin Porter Jr as foundational pieces.

This is such a silly sentiment. Neither you nor I know which young player will be the next Harden. When we did that trade, it was for the 6th player of the year, not the greatest offensive player of all time.

IMO, "foundation piece" does not necessarily mean "franchise player." To me it means add a piece to the "core."

In any case, I fully expect that whoever the Rockets add (if they do) this board will lambaste the move and we will have lots of pages of complaining.
