Uh, it's not exactly just what Tracy McGrady wants...check the press clippings. I posted it in this or another thread last night, but here it is again: http://www.orlandosentinel.com/spor...n20,1,2311152.story?coll=orl-sports-headlines Don't think ALL of the cards are in McGrady's hands. The Magic can still make a deal with any team looking for a one year rental. Tracy has not told them exactly where he wants to go, either. As the quote says, it's not as simple as the Magic trading him wherever he wants to go.
the problem with that thinking is that in order to acquire McGrady a team will have to give up so much that they will have no serious chance at going deep into the playoffs next year. (with maybe the possible exception of Dallas?) Why would a team want to give up 3-4 solid players and a whole lot of their depth to rent McGrady for one year if it isn't going to allow them a run at a Championship? Do you think any of the teams mentioned so far in the McGrady sweepstakes would stand a shot at winning anything next season if they go through with the rumored deals? It seems to me that every team trying to do so is doing so with a mind for the future, not next season.
I don't think anyone is saying it's just about what Tracy wants. It's the combination of his choice with what Orlando deems a favorable deal. I am taking issue with the argument raised by HillBoy that this is simply about what deal best benefits the Magic. If that were so, any combination of Jason Richardson and a lottery pick blows away all other offers. No team will trade their entire roster for a one year rental. It's as simple as that. It has to be looked at from all angles.
Yes, McGrady doesn't have all the cards, but he does have some. Both the Magic and T-Mac have leverage in this situation. So most likely a deal will be done that satisfy's both T-Mac and the Magic. That's why I think this T-Mac and Shaq to Dallas thing is bogus. The Magic won't want anybody but Dirk and maybe Jamison from Dallas considering that they are in rebuilding mode(And anyone that thinks Dallas will give up Dirk for T-Mac is kidding themself). In terms of varying degrees, it's down to Houston, Phoenix, and Indiana. No other teams are offering the Magic what they need in terms of Talent, Youth, and Marketablitity, along with providing T-Mac with his wish of playing alongside an allstar big man.
I think TM has told them exactly where he wants to go. All of these leaks to the media are a shrewd attempt to increase Orlando's leverage. I think it's Houston's trade to lose. Does anyone really think TM would choose AS over YM as his big man? Ten days left until July 1st.
It's just as New Jack pointed out. Sure, Orlando can totally ignore what TMac wants and trade him anywhere they please. The problem is that Orlando won't get much in return in a scenario like that. So, why would Orlando want to minimize what they get for McGrady.?
Gotta make that deal if that is really what they want. Cato had a fine season (for him) and if we can sell "high" on him, do it. Steve, MObs and Cato for T Mac and filler is a no brainer.
I could easily see Dallas giving up Jamison for T-Mac, if Orlando had no choice. Now, as for the Shaq/T-Mac to Dallas move being bogus. While it won't happen this year, it could happen next year. If T-Mac & Shaq are dead set on playing together, they could both choose to opt' out of their contracts next year. Since both, Orlando & LA would not want to just let their star players walk for nothing, they'd be very open to doing a S&T with Dallas. Even if it didn't net them fair trade value. For instance, if both Shaq & T-Mac were to sign a smaller short term contract with a player option after the 1st year, they could opt' out & be resigned by Cuban for a much larger payday, since he would have received their Full Bird Rights in the S&T. In the S&T, Dallas could offer Jamison to one of the teams & a package of Nash (resigned)/ Josh Howard/Marquis Daniels to the other team. It might not be equal value, but it wouldn't be chopped liver either. That way, Dallas fields a team with Shaq/T-Mac/Nowitski/Finley as it's core of talent. Role players would be easy to sign for that team. It's not real likely to happen, but before last season, who could've predicted that Malone & Payton would've done what they did? Never say never.
Per my interpretation of Doc Rockets last post, the Rockets aren't getting McGrady. When he did say "not all the news is bad news..." It's paraphrased from what he did say. He also proceeded by saying, that the summer was going to be interesting and active. Whether the Rockets get McGrady or not, the future is still young and bright. It's just one good group for another.
since it's down to the home team and the suns...who do you think will win out come wednesday morning?
Man, I wish you guys all the luck in getting T Mac. Although I will be a little jealous, especially if we aren't allowed to get a superstar of our own. Are the rumours that it's a done deal correct?
Interesting thought: if the deal for SF and TMac falls thru it should help set Stevie's 'value' in any other possible deal. Without this being a stretch, it is clear that for TMac to go elsewhere a deal has to trump Stevie.
Speaking of which, what's the word on Kobe coming to Memphis? I suspect you'd have to give up a lot (Maybe you'd be nice enough to give us back Posey to clear some cap room? )
T-mac and Juwan Howard for Steve, Cuttino, and Cato? Sign Derek Fisher..Bruce Bowen..Brent Barry..Antonio Mcdyess..Eric Dampier.. Pike for Ollie.. hmm..I don't know I'm really going to miss Stevie!
Orlando has better offers than that on the table now so why would they do that? In the end Orlando will take the best offer but T-Mac can affect what team gives Orlando the best offer if that makes since.
What you're saying makes sense, but McGrady could force them to settle for less, by publicly saying he won't resign with any team but Dallas. That would force Orlando to let him walk, or take what's being offered. While Jamison isn't fair value for McGrady, he isn't the bottom of the talent barrel either. If push came to shove, Orlando would do the deal.
