I'm glad we didn't get to overpay for him like that.

However, I think it makes Morey look pretty stupid for coming out and saying that we are targeting Lewis. Now, every other FA we will contact must see it as us regarding him as a "consolation prize" - "I'm not the guy they REALLY wanted...".

    Darko > Yi

Yi thinks big markets need him and darko feels he worths 10millions. Well, at least Darko has played some nba games.

My thoughts exactly. I really like Rashard, and I wish he were a Rocket...but not for that kind of money. I don't think he's worth that, and I'm really sick of teams overpaying players. Some may look at it simply as inflation, but man, this is getting out of hand.

Hopefully Morey can put together some good (and more realistic) pieces. Maybe he can play the card about the "guy he really wanted" as Darko not being available before Rashard made a commitment. But other than Darko, I say it's just like you state--"consolation prize". :)

    "5 years and $75 million"?

I am glad Rockets won't spend that amount of money for Lewis. He does not deserve it.

wow it's like you are just trying to find any fault possible. EVERYONE KNOWS RASHARD WAS THE FREE AGENT PRIZE FOR EVERY TEAM! that makes zero sense saying morey looks stupid for stating he was targeting the biggest free agent this year. what other big name free agents is he offending?

I was a Lewis-fan but not for 15M per. Ok, so let's look for plan-B. I think the best fit would be Gooden (if he's available), Artest or Milicic.

Darko seems to have a pretty high opinion of himself, frankly I'd be ok with giving Amir 4-4.5m, looking at it potential I don't think we'll ever regret it, and it will be hard for the Pistons to match that kind of offer.

Come on! Why do you love Amir Johnson so much? You pay twice more money than Chuck?! And Amir would be our starting PF... nice.

Wow, huge contract but the Magic do get much better.

Maybe this is all part of Morey's big ingenious plan. First, he comes out and publicly names Lewis as the Rockets' top FA target, which drives up Lewis' stock and forces the Magic to overcommit.

But this also forces the Magic to give up on signing Darko, making him an unrestricted free agent, leaving the Rockets to swoop in and sign Darko, who turns out to be our primary target all along!

    Pure genius.

LOL Yeah, right. That's exactly what happened. :D

Free Agent courting is full of almost as much bull**** as the draft is. Everyone is jockying for position and favor. A false rumor or outright lie is all part of it. You should never read too much into what anything that comes through the "rumors" or "puffing". It is almost impossible to tell the truth from it.

Maybe Morey was hoping to incite panic from the Magic in order to force their hand in paying Rashard too much in order to have a better shot at Milicic or another player Orlando was potentially eyeing. I think Morey is much shrewder than most who post on this board give him credit for.

I'd take Darko any day of the week, but he's not settling for the MLE. We better look elsewhere...

i would of loved to add rashard but i was nervous at 9-10 million a year. 15 is just ridiculous. the best news out of this is that it's done and we can focus on someone else.

i'm trying not to believe that the maloofs shot that deal down out of spite because f#$k that would be amazing for us. i don't want to give up on artest.

i'm ok with darko at the mle.

can you guys imagine what he would have done if he had signed with us when we should have picked him? sure we would have been a better team but no one really knows for sure if he was in this environment he would developed the same way. he might be our franchise player now who knows (pretty scary since everyone says he's soft, i don't really watch seattle lose so..yeah). im pretty content with his decision to sign with the magic because he wants to get paid, not win a championship. take a look at KG, the guy took a pay cut to win and look where it's gotten him. seriously though we didn't need to sign lewis at the 3 spot because we would have had to give up shane and lord knows this team would suffer defensively if he were shipped off and replaced with Rlewis.

anyone hoping we somehow get Gwallace? :)

He will regret this. i guess he doesnt want to win a championship. Evaeryone knows he wont do it with dwight howard, especialy how the western teams dominate the eastern teams.

He had very promising per minute stats last year (pts, rebounds, blocks), is very quick and athletic, 6-11 and can be our answer at the 4 for a looong time, while having a good competion for the position in Landry. I think they can push each other hard and bring great rewards for the Rockets.
    So what's not to like?

Just Amir Johnson is not a starter-caliber player. He's generaly a rookie. He did nothing in the NBA.
