    I say CO-ROY or Melo

PLAYOFFS=ROY when you are in the west have about the same numbers and are the main man on your team.

The media loves bron, NICE GUY

Melo, didnt want to come off the bench when his team talked about his shots. MEDIA DIDNT LIKE THAT

One think i hate with both of them the refs are up their ass also, they get calls like the vets do!!!

I think the sportswriters bias showed big time here.

Last year, I'd say at least half the writers thought Yao would flop, or at least take years before he can become semi-decent. When Yao basically proved them all wrong, the writers simply voted Amare for ROY to show that they were "right". That Yao not winning vindicated their crappy predictions before the season.

This year, basically EVERYONE thought Lebron was going to rock. So when he lived up to the hype, by voting him for ROY, the writers can now pat themselves on the back for "knowing all along" that Lebron is God.

ROY award is a joke. Who cares?

I think Melo would have won if he didn't throw a temper tantrum...He guided them to the playoff's which is the main reason Yao got robbed last year...

I feel bad for Melo.. as I felt bad for Yao.. but Finals MVP is still way better than ROY in my opinion =P

but the decision last year and this year still irks me.. If they voted in Amare last year (where he was a role player and not the focus of the other teams defense) and not Yao because his team didnt make the playoffs then I dont know why they changed their mind this year. I admit Amare's been playing great ball over there but his team is still in the cellar.

I wonder if we can find out somehow who voted for Amare last year and see how they voted this year. It would make for an interesting article and im curious why they think a certain way. Yao / Amare had very similar stats but Yao was already the focus of the offense and defense. Melo and Bron have similar stats but Bron played mostly against eastern teams and still couldnt get his team into the playoffs. True Denver has a better supporting cast but so did Phoenix last year and Yao still lost out.

On one hand, NBA is strongly encouraging high schooler to go to college; on the other hand, they keep select them as ROY just because they came stright from high school. This is really not fair, I think the NBA just did this for the marketing. Melo should at least be the Co-ROY.

If it was me, I would have voted carmelo by the slimmest of leads.

Their stats were similar in points and rebounds.

    21.0 vs 20.9 (pts)
    6.1 vs 5.5 (rbs)
    2.8 vs 5.9 (assts)
    1.2 vs 1.6 (stls)

For me I would give the edge to Lebron because he played more of a role on his team than carmelo did. Lebron was asked to setup offense and get everyone involved.

Carmelo was asked to primarily score.

I think the tantrum had a big affect on voters want the ROY to be a role model and that tantrum just didn't sit well.

Also media was definitely all crazy over bron because he was one of 3 rookies to average 20/5/5.

Stats alone and results alone can't be judged. I bet the race was close but had carmelo not had that one setback in character I bet he would have won.

Do the same people vote on ROY and All-NBA teams?

Amare beat out Yao in ROY voting last year by a small margin, but Yao nearly made 3rd team all-NBA his rookie season (16th highest vote getter).

Can anyone tell me whether the same group of people vote for the awards, or actually the coaches and players vote for all-NBA teams?

I really dont understand the whole Anthony had a better team deal

I look at the rosters and see roughly the the same talent level, more than enough talent on the Cavs to make the playoffs in the east.

I look at the nuggets roster i see andre miller, voshan lenard and anthony being the only real scorers (could avg 20+ that is) then boykins chipping in 10 points or so

Cleveland had the Big Z, probably the best offensive true center in the east by default, Boozer, Eric Williams, Dajuan Wagner, Mcinns,

Honestly I expected the cavs to make the playoffs in the east this year with or without lebron if they got a competent coach, which they finally have in Silas and the fact that not only did the miss the playoffs, but they crumbled at the end while the nuggets held true in some very crucial games where Carmelo lead them alone should show who had the better rookie season.

Hands down it should be Carmelo or co, but James should NOT have this award all to himself this year

The-yoyo, I agree with you, but they you are trying to muddy things up by bringing logic into this.

Great post Yo Yo, but never mention Lenard and "real scorers" in the same sentence. Vo's great, if you only count 1/6 of his games. He'll score 30, then get 5-10 the next 5. Frustrating as hell.

If Bron can win ROY while Melo led his team to the PO, why couldn't Yao have won last year?

Why the double standards from the sportswriters? Did they vote for Amare because they wanted to prove that they were right in labeling Yao a bust before he was even allowed to play one game in the NBA?

I have no problem with Lebron getting the ROY for one simple reason, he did not refuse to go back into a game like his counterpart, Carmelo.

Additionally, Lebron personifies the ideal ROY. He played unselfishly, made his team better, put up numbers none of us expected and had more pressure to succeed than Melo. Those things coupled with my first point make Lebron the lone ROY for 2004 in my book.

    ...except that Yao was jipped.

Ok ok, I will get over it at some stage.

It should have been a tie or Carmelo winning because they are in the playoffs and lebron is not just like what happen to yao and amare.
